Question re secondary school coronavirus confused

Hello

After the announcements 2 days ago where they said secondary school returning 11/1 and 18/1 depending on year group . I have a child in year 9 and yesterday the school emailed me inviting my son to come back from next week. I am not a key worker or my child is not a vulnerable child so I emailed asking why he had been invited following the government guidelines . They said it was not obligatory but they felt my child would benefit from this . I am not sure what to do. He works well and home and is happier at home . In year 7 he had some issues at school and was not happy but this was all sorted out just before lockdown happened.

Not sure what to do . If he was getter proper teaching at school then may consider it but if it was a cover teacher just handing out work not really teaching them then I would rather he be at home. I don’t want to look bad with the school and uncertain times at the moment. What would you do? Thank you

I would send him in part of the week - it's good they have offered. Lots of people would jump at the chance! So maybe send him in Mon- Wed then couple of days home.

Why would you think it would be a cover teacher handing out work?
Also, did you ask why they thought he would benefit from it?

My children were offered places in March as they have a severely disabled brother and attend “young carers” at school. I’ve heard nothing this time but hoping they offer places again. I didn’t send them last time because I truly didn’t anticipate they would be off school so long and how that would affect them. If they offer this time I’ll 100% Be sending them.

Hi HollyGenneroMcClane No I haven’t gone back to her yet asking why. I know they have lots of cover staff before as staff were off. Just unsure that’s all. Maybe could send him in and see how it is hopefully should be ok. I am a stay at home Mum so I am here to help anyhow . Thanks

No way. With the rise of cases, why on earth would you risk it?

Fiddlersgreen · 02/01/2021 02:15

Our school have said the keyworker kids will be doing online lessons same as the rest of the school. Only difference being they’ll actually be in the school.
If the case is the same for you I wouldn’t send him in, not worth the risk

IamChipmunk · 02/01/2021 07:55

Same in our school. Any key worker or vulnerable kids are just supervised to do the same online learning as everyone else. There is no 'teaching' or lessons as such.

That’s what ours did in summer. But this time we are remote teaching from the actual timetabled classrooms in the school building and ‘may or may not’ have actual students in the room too. Which is ridiculous, as it still means moving classrooms and logging on again every 50 bloody minutes, which takes ages.

He works well and home and is happier at home I'd keep him home. Less risk of infection too

flumposie · 02/01/2021 11:46

I would keep him at home. Our pupils will do the same work as those at home .

lotti37 · 02/01/2021 11:54

That’s what I was thinking if they are doing the exact same thing at home and no real teaching I would rather keep him at home . He works well at home . But feel guilty like we should accept the offer
