Should we start policing the restrictions?

I recently had to go to London (tier 4) from my home in a tier 3 area.

I bought a train ticket as normal, went to the railway station, got the train to Paddington, then got the tube across London and went to where I needed to go. A few hours later i reversed the trip and at the last stage got a taxi home.

At no stage did I see a police officer or did anyone ask me why I was doing the journey.

Should we start trying to enforce the restrictions we have?

And logistically how would that be done particularly in London?

bringle · 01/01/2021 12:37

Person travelling across tiers wants it enforcing hmmm.

Reminds of the lockdown posts "I went to the shops today & it was rammed, don't people understand" or "I went for a jog & was outraged by the amount of people in the park" 🤔

@bringle

I've always found, the most pious about it always have a excuse why they are breaking rules, but complain about others.

My neighbour got told to fuck off for this very reason.

bringle · 01/01/2021 12:47

But what gets me is how they can't possibly comprehend that others have just as valid reasons. The levels of stupidly displayed in 2020 have actually scared me.

Yes.

Their trip is completly essential, but everyone else is a 'selifish idiot', 'flouting' the rules for frivilous reasons. Been seeing this for 9 months at this stage.

@notevenat20

And where do you think the extra police/station staff would be conjured up from?

We have had policy officers in the main railway stations before and we had pcso's patrolling the parks, for example, in the first lockdown. I am not sure that's the thing stopping us.

And hopefully they've been put to better use now, rather than questioning people who are just going to lie anyway as there's no way of proving why they're travelling.
Heyahun · 01/01/2021 13:01

Hahahahahahah yeah the met police have lots of free time to be checking where everyone is travelling to and enforcing restrictions on people! As if like

tiredqueen · 01/01/2021 13:03

Absolutely not. And tbh the suggestion is dangerous. Why not dob your neighbours in too?

We do not live in a communist state. If you want your every move policing and scrutinising then move to North Korea

Yes. The type who stands by the net curtains with a notebook jotting down how many visitors Jenny in number 43 had yesterday.

Where's she gone? Didn't get the response she was expecting?

fizzyp0p · 01/01/2021 13:38

I work at a station. In the first lockdown the BTP appeared occasionally and asked people where they were going and why. Some people were stopped. Some people were not allowed to come into the station once they'd got off the train they sent them back where they came from.

Mostly though after 7pm loads of people would appear, clearly were not off to work and would go where they wanted.

I get that feeling too.

OP, in answer to your question, NO! We don't want a police state.

Was your reason for travelling across the tiers one of the permitted ones, or did you just go out to observe everyone else's rule breaking.
