Nurseries and covid

DD is due back to nursery on Monday, we live in a London borough with some of the highest infection rates in the country. I know there were outbreaks at the local primary school before Christmas closure but there were no cases at all at DDs nursery, we didn't have to isolate because of any cases amongst parents either.

So, are we taking too big a risk sending her back now? Does anyone have any experience of nursery age kids getting or passing on covid? Our hospitals are at breaking point and DH has some risk factors so getting it now would be a very alarming prospect.

Not sure what to do for the best.

My child hasn’t caught it from nursery but 2 babies in the baby room had and we’ve had cumulatively a month isolation to do. In Scotland nurseries are closed til 18th Jan.

A child in my little one's room had a positive test. We had 2 weeks of isolation, but he didn't get it or get sick.

I'd send them. It's the only enrichment possible at the moment.

Nurseries and childcare settings should be treated the same as primary schools that are closed in the majority of boroughs in London.

I'm in the same situation OP or possibly more risky as now we're in tier 4 DH has been advised to shield again.

Before Christmas we had to isolate due to a teacher testing positive, thankfully we were all ok but I'm not sure if it was passed to any of the other nursery children.

I'm leaning towards keeping DC at home for a week or so and then go from there. I feel that an extension of the holiday would be less disruptive than going back to nursery on Monday and potentially having to isolate again. Especially as we haven't really seen the effects of Christmas-mixing yet.

What did you decide to do OP?

It also depends on your situation with work. My company was very flexible while nurseries were closed, but would be less pleased if I said I needed flexibility because we’d decided to take DD out.
DD’s nursery is large and on the site of a secondary school with lots of parents who are teachers and there hasn’t been any cases. Obviously that could change in an instant, but as none of us have any risk factors I’m personally happy to send DD in.

I suspect nurseries will close for non-key workers by next week

Hi, sorry meant to come back and update. We are sending her. I am worried about the new strain, but I think some parents won't send their kids so the numbers will be smaller and I have a lot of faith in the nursery to take the right steps. It's so hard though.
