Where I live we've either been in lockdown or tier 3. Our numbers have remained low and still are in comparison to the south who were left open in tier 1 and 2 for far too long.

Everybody is blaming the schools but our schools have been fine where we live.

I'm just wondering if most of the posts with great concerns are down south?

Oh hello fellow sheffielders! You’re right, the huge crowds of students definitely worsened our stats

Yes I live in West Yorkshire. We’ve been under some sort of restrictions since March. With a small break around June/July. Then back in again.
At least the south have been able to see people indoors etc. We haven’t for months. Which is why I haven’t seen my family in the south since July.

Our rates were very high here about a month ago. My DH works in a secondary school and cases were through the roof back then. All the staff had to be tested as all the senior staff got it and then most of the pupils too.
I knew one person In hospital on oxygen and one who died (mid 70s).

@Christmasfairy2020

When sheffield university and hallam re open soon our rates will spiral as tier 4 students come here!!! Keep schools open and keep uni students at home away from sheffield
We are in Sheffield, dd is due to return to university this weekend in a tier 4 area. Her course re-starts next week,

She's just had a pcr covid test, as recommended, before she leaves.

Some of her university friends are waiting to have the two quick fire ones, a few days alert, during their first week back, but the university has recommended - and it certainly makes more sense to me - to have the more reliable one, in their home town, before leaving wherever they can.

Def should have a test prior to comming back. We will go into tier 4 otherwise. It's a rubbish time for the students I really do sympathise :(

Fellowsheffielders, remember when genteel Ranmoor had the worst infection rates in the country due to the halls of res?!

Such a lovely olde worlde suburb!

I'm in Tyneside too @SabrinaTheMiddleAgedBitch my kids school (primary) has had some bubbles out but non more than once and not every year group. It certainly hasn't' 'ripped through' I was disappointed with tier 4 as our rates are lower than many other places however they are going up and although I haven't been out that much the rare occassions I have popped to the Metro Centre or Eldon Square they have been rammed with people treating it as a day out so although it is a pain I think possibly shutting non essential retail, especially now when I'm guessing they would be getting quieter anyway, is a good call. I think people have possibly got a bit complacent. Hopefully going in to tier 4 with low numbers means we might not be in for as long.
