There’s a man at the entrance to the tip. AIBU to think we’ve all gone a bit mad?

I mean the entrance where you turn in to the site, not at the bays and disposal units.

He asks everyone to take the window down. Then he tells you to carry on driving... the only feasible way to drive as it’s one way. He’s been there since covid and he’s a covid Marshall according to his high vis.

What are these ridiculous covid things?! I feel like the world has gone crazy. I mean I like the chap but honestly, why?!

The other day in John Lewis there were 6 staff at the door literally pointing down the one way system...no other option to go another way. We couldn’t help but laugh as it was almost like some royal greeting... all of them lined up smiling in high vis but essentially not doing much at all —except maybe ticking the covid box form—

Marshall’s at our recycling centre checking photographic ID and proof of address to ensure that those using the centres are from within the local authority, and council officers at the skips to make sure industrial waste isn’t being disposed of. All fine, necessary and efficient. My sons have part time jobs in essential retail and it’s necessary to monitor the number of people inside at any one time, and comply with one way system/physical distancing and on occasion prevent folk from bringing dogs which are not assistance dogs (4 huskies - owner verbally abusive to 16 year old ds when told no). So there are certainly plenty of folk who don’t think the rules apply to them therefore staff in place to remind/enforce are needed unfortunately.

@MarinPrime

Only ONE person per car. Doesn’t sound bad does it? Except if you have a baby, child or dog in the car, you’re supposed to leave them at the gate, go in and do your stuff, then come out and collect them

Getting rid of stuff isn't an emergency, couldn't you wait until its convenient to go on your own?

Single parent hood?

No family support?

There's always workers at the entrance to our tip. They check car registrations to make sure you're registered and direct you to to the right sections according the type of waste you have.

There's no extra covid restrictions though.

Are other tips unmanned?

We have to book slots and give reg numbers when doing so. It was incredibly well organised. I imagine he’s ticking people off the list?

midnightstar66 · 01/01/2021 13:14

Yes we have one of those too. I thought it was totally reasonable to make sure not too many on site at once at busy times 🤷🏼‍♀️
