London hospital declaring state of disaster...

We are in tier 4, not far from London. I don’t want to send my DD to her primary school, I don’t want to attend my hospital appointment for an MRI next week, and my son’s hearing test at a clinic. I want to stay at home and keep everyone safe.
**@BeccaBean* @ChasingRainbows19* @Porcupineintherough thank you. I do think I’ll keep my MRI. I will rearrange my sons, and see how things develop over next few days for school. Doctors are seeing more patients in their 20/30s and it’s the way the virus is mutating and new strains. I’m can’t put into words how grateful I am to the NHS, and I want to keep my family, community safe - while not adding any additional burden. I don’t know if the government have got it right regarding schools where we are.
Viruses mutate that's what they do, covid has already mutated dozens of times!!

Do what you want, but dont get into such unnecessary panic. My area is over 800 pee 100,000, I just had covid, probably the new strain given I'm East of England and I'm 40, asthmatic, slightly overweight with a list of allergies as long as your arm and I've had worse colds.

Why are you scared op ?
Go to your appointment that is important.
You say you want to keep yourself well for your family and you think not going for your MRI will do that . Hmm

I wouldn’t cancel your sons appointment, i work in the NHS future waiting lists are going to be horrendous and we aren’t at the end of this yet. Would you be happy waiting another 12-18months for the same appointment for him if you cancel? Of course this will be area dependant but could happen.

The clinic appointment is for my son’s hearing, and I think it’s fine to delay that one

I really wouldn't. If your child has a suspected hearing problem or ear issues (e.g. glue ear, perforated eardrum etc) I wouldn't delay this. Hearing difficulties and/or ear issues has a significant impact on speech, language and attention. It's better to get this sorted ASAP.

“Why are you worried if you’re healthy” people are either frighteningly stupid or are deliberately missing the point to be goady.

We all understand that for a young and healthy person a “vanilla” bout of Covid is not particularly risky. There’s no need to keep hammering this home.

The point is that any exposure to a hospital in a risky area at the moment is not something anyone wants to put themselves through.

My DD has asthma and while I understand she is unlikely to die from a bout of Covid the prospect of a brush with A&E is not something I want to gamble with in London right now.

What I find more frightening is people actually considering missing medical appointments.
