Listening to LBC a call from a Taxi Driver

He has called in to say that he has been dropping of people at partys all night and so upset he has decided to end his shift early. He doesnt want to have to pick up these people after they have flouted the rules and gone out celebrating regardless.

Some of the callers tonight have shared similar concerns as they report seeing partying going on around them. I really thought people would take the massive spike in numbers seriously and am dissappointed in them not. One caller was a ICU Consultant who said he had to give the last rites to a patient as their own priest/religious member could not be on the ward. They said they are in their 60s but the majority in his care are younger than him.

Stay safe everyone and I hope all will have a better new year.

On a work note, I have just been advised we have a batch of the Oxford Vaccine being delivered on Monday and it is so sad that with this in sight some people (not the majority I know) are not prepared to wait for the light around the corner and thinking the rules dont apply to them.

Have you noticed if people in your area are staying within the guidelines or are you aware of partying around you.

Pleased to report that all seems very quiet in my village and it seems like most people are sticking to the rules

There is a party at the flats by my house which was expected. Fuckers.

Stellaris22 · 31/12/2020 20:48

I could hear drunken people walking past my house earlier. It's usually a very sensible area but taxis have been busier than usual.

I give up tbh and NHS staff have my utmost sympathy.

Thats not so good Northernsoullover I live in a maisonette and my neighbours are very social people but they are just listening to loud music without the additional guests, I am pleased as did wonder if they would keep to it. I am not a snitch, but work for an ambulance trust and have seen how on their knees my frontline colleagues are at the moment, so even if the party goers dont spread the virus, they may end up needing an ambulance for other reasons, which also doesnt help.

Yes I was a little confused about the taxi driver as from the sound of his voice he was disgusted with the people he dropped off at parties but where did he think he would be taking people tonight? He is actually in a position he could give the addresses to the police if he wished. He said he needed the money which is why he was working but his conscience made him end his shift early as he felt so at risk and didnt want to put others that he meets for genuine reasons (taking to work etc) at the same risk.

It seems pretty quiet in my part of town tonight - well almost, there’s been plenty of fireworks since about 6pm from individual gardens but I’m pretty sure that’s deliberate and part of a Facebook war on my local page over them that’s gotten out of control...

TheQueef · 31/12/2020 21:04

Dead here, ex pit village.
The icy weather will put them off hopefully.

I also have noticed fireworks too, I think they are small household affairs and not parties, I am about to pout myself a drink and see in the new year watching a film and with my DD and her BF (who both live with me)

Hope you have a happy new year Cornettoninja

These responses are making me feel better, I think the LBC show would have attracted people to call who were upset about something so maybe not a true reflection as people wont call in to say, all is OK and everyone is staying home and watching TV :) TheQueef - Happy New Year to you, heres hoping 2021 is better for all.

A neighbour over the road is having a discreet party. People keep arriving but it's very quiet. No loud music.

Very cold an quiet here on the coast.
Thank god.

Manzanilla55 · 31/12/2020 21:17

Not sure how many parties around where I live but there is plenty of loud fireworks kicking off.

bathsh3ba · 31/12/2020 21:17

All quiet in my village. Had to take my cat to the vet earlier in the next town and people seemed to be stocking up on booze but that doesn't necessarily mean they were combining households.

I'm in essex - could hear fireworks a bit earlier but think that's individual families in their gardens - but tbh I think the freezing weather has sent them inside - happy new year to all ☺️

My dad was very upset yesterday after being asked to drive an elderly woman to a Southern city from Newcastle and back the next day so she could have NYE with her daughter. He refused, but all the drivers were 'warned' not to report parties etc. Someone took her in the end. Basically, they'll have their cars smashed if they do.

A very unpleasant situation, and exactly why there needs to be more regulation to keep drivers safe from gangsters who push money through these firms.

Joeblack066 · 31/12/2020 21:21

All quiet here, Derbyshire town. Odd domestic firework going off. DD is currently FaceTiming with her bestie that she would usually be clubbing with. We’ve had a FaceTime with the family. Locally, all seems good.
