Boris is still saying we won’t go back to normal till April.

@NiceGerbil

It's a massive logistic task.

I worry about the second dose -how are they making sure that is done in a timely way.

At our GPs today, after my mother had her first dose she was told when her second will be. The second appointment for everyone was set. The nurse was advising “Don’t forget to come on XX January at the same time for your second dose”

If they told us how long it is really going to take the dumb people would just give up.

scaevola · 30/12/2020 22:45

If you also assume that the most elderly and CEV (with care/NHS staff that's everyone in categories 1-4) aren't properly safe until they've had their second shot and the 2 weeks for that to take effect, you're looking at about 26 weeks from now

But of course there will also be the next couple of priority categories receiving their first shots as priority 4 received their second. But unless you double capacity by 12 weeks, you will have to restrict the number of 1st shots

And that is of course assuming we can deliver a sustained million shots per week in the first 12 weeks

I think this is the bit from the news today that we're not meant to e noticing.

If Boris addresses the nation at Easter time and says 'back to normal by summer' then people will just give up with it. Too many failed promises. And no it won't be back to normal by April. The vaccine numbers don't stack up.

We should be over the worst of it by April, which is a different message.

tilder · 30/12/2020 22:54

@elldog6

The vaccine doesn't stop you getting it nor does it so you stop you spreading it. Vaccinated people will continue to spread the virus as well as unvaccinated people do now.

Until everyone who is likely to be hospitalised from COVID is vaccinated we won't see any change.

This isn't correct AFAIK.

As I understand it, they don't yet know if a vaccinated person can still spread it or not. Am assuming this is part of the follow up studies.

NiceGerbil · 30/12/2020 22:58

That's good beanbag

I'm just a bit worried due to the government whole piss up in a brewery issues to date!

Nacreous · 30/12/2020 23:00

I think we will be on the way out by April - restrictions decreasing but probably not gone. I'm hoping for midsummer as the point when things feel really reasonably normal again.

Honestly though, at this point I'd take being allowed to be inside with anyone I don't live with as a major success, I think after what I suspect Jan and possibly Feb are going to be like that just going to the pub or the gym will feel like a real treat in the spring.

OP because you're stupid? Basic math, population x number of vaccines needed x time to vaccinate......sigh.....
