I think they just said 80% efficacy if 2 does given 3 months apart!

@Thatwentbadly Up to individual people and their doctors, based on risk assessments, I believe.

PurpleDaisies · 30/12/2020 11:47

They didn’t say no. It was no before, now it is discuss it with your health care professional. That’s for both vaccines.

@HopeAndDriftWoodi don’t have the scientific background to help me risk assess that. I’m there is more info later on to help me consider the options.

That’s a discussion to have with your doctor.

sittingonacornflake · 30/12/2020 12:04

Thanks for the info re breastfeeding. I was thinking I might have to think about weaning my nearly 3yo next year if it meant I couldn't have the vaccine whilst breastfeeding so there is hope I may not have todo that.

PrincessBuggerPants · 30/12/2020 12:08

@Thatwentbadly check out the Breastfeeding Network Drugs in Breastmilk information service if you want to investigate further: www.facebook.com/BfNDrugsinBreastmilkinformation/

An iningredient list can be found here I think

justasking111 · 30/12/2020 12:17

Been through all the channels including the news channels, not a whiff of a broadcast this morning or this afternoon. Sorry I missed it as perhaps a lot of people did.

PurpleDaisies · 30/12/2020 12:21

RaffertyBear · 30/12/2020 12:23

So, only 80% efficiency rather than the 95% they were quoting from trials?

That's not enough for herd immunity, sadly.

houselikeashed · 30/12/2020 12:24

Oooh. Was it Prof Sarah Gilbert?

Jent13c · 30/12/2020 12:24

I got my vaccine a week ago and we were advised to stop breastfeeding before getting the vaccine.

Ah thank you. That is very kind. I am annoyed that the tv schedule is not showing when and where these announcements are made.

Crumpetycrump · 30/12/2020 12:25

No it was the MHRA but sarah Gilbert was just interviews on the BBC news channel.

She’s so calm, reassuring and dignified. I’ve really enjoyed this press conference. It’s nice to have people who actually answer the questions and know what they’re talking about. That’s a bit of a contrast to the politicians!

We said the same thing. DD's comment was that it would be better to let the scientists do all of the briefings without any politicians present, as they are so much more convincing!

PuzzledObserver · 30/12/2020 12:28

I thought Dr Raine was extremely good - especially under the really hostile questioning of one of the press people, who basically accused them all of incompetence and why should people trust you.

Ihatefish · 30/12/2020 12:30

Has there been any more information about whether either vaccine stops transmission yet?

PurpleDaisies · 30/12/2020 12:33

@RaffertyBear

So, only 80% efficiency rather than the 95% they were quoting from trials?

That's not enough for herd immunity, sadly.

We don’t know what impact the vaccines will have on transmission yet. The efficacy figures are for preventing disease. These vaccines will reduce hospitalisations and deaths.

Also, I wonder if you’re getting confused with the percentage of people who need to be vaccinated to achieve herd immunity with the efficacy of the vaccine itself.

RaffertyBear · 30/12/2020 12:40

@PurpleDaisies Nope, not getting confused - the numbers have changed wildly.

Yes, they will prevent deaths, but they are very unlikely to provide herd immunity sadly.

KarmaNoMore · 30/12/2020 12:40

No ingredient list provided 😕

SillyOldMummy · 30/12/2020 12:44

INGREDIENTS IN THE PFIZER-BIONTECH COVID-19 VACCINE:

  • mRNA,
  • Lipids ((4-hydroxybutyl)azanediyl)bis(hexane-6,1-diyl)bis(2-hexyldecanoate), 2
[(polyethylene glycol)-2000]-N,N-ditetradecylacetamide, 1,2-Distearoyl-sn-glycero-3- phosphocholine, and cholesterol),
  • potassium chloride,
  • monobasic potassium phosphate,
- sodium chloride,
  • dibasic sodium phosphate dihydrate,
  • sucrose.

So, that's clear then! Just as long as you are sure you arent allergic to those, it's all good. Hmm

Fleshlumpeater · 30/12/2020 12:45

Looking forward to catching this later. I was in awe of Dr June Raine after watching her do the Pfizer press conference. So cool and level headed and just exuded intelligence. Total contrast to watching Boris later Grin

MarshaBradyo · 30/12/2020 12:45

@MorrisZapp

Dr June Raine, I wish you summer sunshine.
