Statement in parliament this afternoon on 'reopening of schools in England'

By Gavin.

I'm aware there are a million threads on this generally but this is specifically regarding the statement - any leaks/clues/predictions?

To state my own position: I think schools need to close to all except keyworker and vulnerable children. I feel it's obvious this needs to happen. My own two children are thriving at school and I'm not concerned about them at all - if their (primary) school is open, I will send them - but I worry for their teachers, any vulnerable parents of their classmates and of course the NHS.

My prediction (based on nothing): secondary schools blended/part time. Primary fully open. We are tier 4 fwiw and I disagree with opening schools in January...

@BelleSausage - no one has said they don’t want to look after their children but some people have to go to work as teachers, doctors, nurses, supermarkets staff, electric and water technicians, emergency services etc. They can’t work from home

You would think they’d make the list available ASAP of primaries due to shut.

SueEllenMishke · 30/12/2020 16:43

But it’s okay because people don’t have to look after their kids

But it's okay because people will be able to keep their jobs and therefore keep a roof over their heads and feed their children

There.... fixed it for you.

LadyPenelope68 · 30/12/2020 16:43

@DfEisashambles

kingkat. As long as your kids are at school fuck everyone else right?
This exactly!

testingtesting321 · 30/12/2020 16:43

@Brownwhiteyellow

The spikes in hospital admissions must be due to mixing outside school (no one should be seeing grandparents, for a start) when a contagious strain is going round. Dont blame or close schools, the benefits are dwarfed by risks... they've been closed the past 2 weeks and didnt cause this spike.
The incubation period is up to 14 days, so it’s actually quite possible that schools did cause this spike.
bathsh3ba · 30/12/2020 16:44

Well surely it all hinges on where primaries and secondaries will be closed. Are they still figuring that out on the back of an envelope?

DfEisashambles · 30/12/2020 16:44

This will all go to shit for Gav, he knows it too. He has to carry on brave faced but he knows.

Barbie222 · 30/12/2020 16:45

The problem is, in a week or so the areas which have the primaries open will have similar figures to those with closures now. What then - open them all or admit defeat and close?

LadyPenelope68 · 30/12/2020 16:45

And as a CV, over 50 year old teacher, it’s ok as long as you’ve got a job, but never mind if my children end up without a Mum because I’ve got to provide free babysitting for you? Go f**k yourself.

Popcornriver · 30/12/2020 16:46

Got your free childcare sorted then? 🙄 Meanwhile teachers and school staff have been thrown to the wolves.

Families as well. I'm done with the whole thing. The message has basically been changed to stay inside but if we're at massive risk from the children bringing it home why should we bother following the other restrictions. With the current numbers we're pretty much guaranteed to catch it. Another day with 50 thousand cases and there's almost a thousand deaths? Good luck to anyone needing hospital treatment in the next couple of months.

WankPuffins · 30/12/2020 16:46

@DfEisashambles

The gloating of some people who genuinely don’t give a shit about teachers, carers, BME, vulnerable children and adults may be short lived indeed.
Quite.

This is all madness. And people turning on each other doesn't help.

testingtesting321 · 30/12/2020 16:46

Does someone have a link to the document that mentions that contacts will stay in school and tested daily please? Planning to write to my MP but can’t find the document.

GoldenLabbie · 30/12/2020 16:46

@XmasSkies2020

Relief here. Thank goodness for common sense
Thank goodness you don’t have to look after your own kids you mean?
DfEisashambles · 30/12/2020 16:46

@Barbie222. Due to the people who insist on soldiering on when it would be very wise to lock down for a positive Spring and beyond outcome this shit show will get worse.

DownRightAmazing · 30/12/2020 16:46

Do you think BoJo will announce where in his press conference?

And the on Sunday they will add more places?

He’s just confirmed that rapid testing will be used to stop the need for self isolating. He’s basically signing the death warrant of thousands more people. I truly hate him.

Donuts000 · 30/12/2020 16:46

He really is a patronising toaster

The lag in deaths is up to 2 weeks which is exactly how long ago primaries closed in London, for example
Donuts000 · 30/12/2020 16:47

Tosser!!!

ItsIgginningtolookalotlikeXmas · 30/12/2020 16:47

You couldn't make this shit up.
Are they really planning to leave close contacts of positive cases in school to infect other people? And starting all this from next week for primary children.

whatshalliget · 30/12/2020 16:47

The lateral flow tests are not reliable but and that’s well known but those are a front really.

Yes and can schools refuse to take part in the lateral flow test charade / game of Russian Roulette? Large amounts of cognitive dissonance coming our way.

SabrinaTheMiddleAgedBitch · 30/12/2020 16:47

@Piggyinblankets She's 'only' classed as CV but has autism as well and I worry about her being able to adequately communicate how unwell she felt if she did catch it. And I have to provide a lot of personal care so no chance of any distancing (same for her teachers) She attends a sen school who have been fantastic but her younger sister is in mainstream primary and I was told in no uncertain terms I would be fined if she doesn't attend. We go into tier 4 tomorrow

DfEisashambles · 30/12/2020 16:47

In a pandemic where lives are at risk please prioritise your children’s and others lives and look after them yourselves.

LadyPenelope68 · 30/12/2020 16:47

@MissMarpletheMurderer
So good luck primary teachers, you are fucked
