What happens if you don’t attend a test?

Does anyone know what happens if you book a test and then don’t attend?. I booked it as I had been suffering with headaches, but for the last few hours I’ve felt fine so not sure what to do?.

Nothing happens, but you can't cancel it so the time slot will be wasted. Might as well test, as you may miss this one and then find you develop more symptoms. Are your only symptoms a headache?

Bear6 · 30/12/2020 00:55

Shame it can’t be cancelled. Headache and sleeping more I guess, though it’s the holidays so all routine is out the window!

You booked a test for a headache?!

There must be a way to cancel...if not, then why waste the swab etc.

Agoodbriskwalk · 30/12/2020 01:07

You can't cancel and there's no follow up. I had one booked and then my employer sent me for an immediate private one (for specific reasons) that would give a quick result so I had to attend that one instead and missed the government one.

Headache is actually a very common symptom for many people who are testing positive. Not everyone gets the cough etc

Oh right ok, thanks

If it was important enough to book a test, its important enough to take the bloody thing. If you miss your slot then start feeling worse*, then what? Book another one?

*it is actually a feature of COVID to have symptoms wax and wane.

Yes every friend that’s tested positive (6 in the last week) all said the 3 main symptoms they didn’t have but nearly all mentioned headache

CrownAddict · 30/12/2020 07:02

I had a bout of coughing one morning and booked a test. Had panicked as elderly mother in my bubble. Realized this was not continuous (3 coughing episodes in 24 hours needed), felt like an idiot, and rang as no way to cancel online. Operator very nice and said no problem, lots of people book slots in a panic and you simply don't turn up, and the test itself isnt wasted. I felt awful as would never not properly cancel an NHS appt. Shame they can't be cancelled online to free up the slot. She said it was a centralised govt system the phone line can't access, which seemed strange.

To the person who asked about headaches.
Headaches is how mine started. They got worse and worse. It was the only symptom I have of covid.

Bmidreams · 30/12/2020 07:15

Headaches and fatigue are two huge symptoms.

midnightstar66 · 30/12/2020 07:38

Just take the test now it's booked. You'll be kicking yourself if the headache comes back along with other symptoms especially if you are then outside the 5 day test window. Lots of people just get what tube described so it's better to know.

polkadotpixie · 30/12/2020 07:42

Nothing happens. I booked for me, DH & DS when DS had a cough (this was July in Leicester so asymptotic testing was encouraged before anyone jumps on me for wasting tests!) and DH refused to have his (he's a conspiracy theorist 🙄) and I never heard a thing about it

Thirtymumma · 30/12/2020 08:01

I personally would go for the test. You never know you could have it and would be at risk of spreading it without knowing
