What about nurseries?

There is a lot of talk and speculation about secondaries closing, and also potentially primaries but I can’t find anything about nurseries. I feel like I need my nursery child in childcare more than I need my older ones in school in order to work.

No one can answer for definite but I’m interested in views as I’m trying to contingency plan but it’s impossible!

That doesn’t help if your employer needs you to keep working. We are a bit fucked if all the teachers, doctors and nurses get furloughed to look after their toddlers aren’t we?

Thank you, we certainly are! Yet that's what many on here think should happen to 'lazy teachers'. I have regularly pointed out 'be careful what you wish for'.

Businesses need to work to support families as much as possible, schools and nurseries can't manage the needs of families alone.

From that update I take it nurseries will open as normal?

Wherediditgo · 30/12/2020 17:00

I think so Marsha that’s what I’m taking from it.

They've just released the information on areas where primaries will shut and even in areas where primaries are shutting nurseries are open (except school nurseries, which can decide whether or not to close, presumably most will if the rest of the school is)

So why the fuckity fuck are nurseries in Scotland shut? Argh...

Ireland keeping them open too. And announced in statement about measures by the Taoiseach, rather than ignored until announced via Twitter the next morning, too...

Because they know that the authorities don't give a shit about non-unionised unvalued minimum wage staff. Too dangerous for 30 5-year old children to get together for 7 hours, but fine for 45 4-year old children to be together for 11 hours.

Maybe in some cases but no where near the private nursery situation - over staffed, fewer dc compared to others but you pay more

They aren’t undervalued but staff tend to stay for ages so hard to get an opening

I'm just relieved they're staying open. I have a 1yr old and a nearly 3yr old, I wfh full time, dh works self employed out of the house and can't do his job from home, so if nurseries close we would really struggle. If he doesn't work, he doesnt earn, and we need his wage. I can't work from home and care for two kids, it's impossible. My parents are ecv, so I'd be screwed really.
