MIL asked dh into the house

PIL have covid and were diagnosed with a postive test christmas eve. They are in their 80s active and independent.

Dh dropped groceries to the gate. Mil tried to get into the car to give him presents. Dh had to loc the car. Yeaterday he did the same and she asked him to come in for tea. He said no obviously. I cannot fathom it at all. They are avid readers of TV and news and were told by the gp not to be on contact with anyone. I am starting to worry she has memory loss or something to act like this. I work on a school and It was in my school yet she was angry I didn't visit her that weekend. How can we get this message though?

She sounds very selfish.

Wonder who else she may have put at risk.

Your DH needs to tell her clearly to isolate.

She had no mask on or anything and at one point he had to get out of the car. I can't understand it at all. When he didn't take the gifts the other day she was annoyed and rolled her eyes and told him not to be ridiculous. I usually like the woman but I have no time for her with this behaviour. Unless it medical and she isn't well or forgetful that she has it.

If they have had a positive test but don’t feel too ill then they may think it’s not that serious. Lots of people seem to be coming to that conclusion (probably why the figures are all going up?)

This is quite common behaviour for people in their 80's, they may follow the news but they retain nothing, although they may not have dementia they are not the person that they were ten years ago.

It's weird isn't it. My dm was on the last day of self isolating after the app told her to, had a cough and a temperature but couldn't understand why I thought she should get a test? She's an avid follower of news and politics, a user of the Zoe app and very sensible Confused. I think it's a quirk of human nature that we can't compute that we might be a risk to others.
