Tell me I'm being silly

I have an outpatients appointment tomorrow for an eeg. It's actually a private referral through my work private cover but is being done in a big nhs hospital.

It's not urgent really - it's to rule things out hopefully. I feel odd about going - a bit selfish at having a non urgent appointment and a bit nervous about going to a big hospital.

I wondered if I should reschedule- it is a private appointment after all but it would be very very late in the day as it's tomorrow am and I do need it done (not least as I cannot drive unless it's clear and if it's not I need to discuss next steps).

I should just go shouldn't I? I'm being silly. I'm in the SW for context, tier 3 though.

If they want to cancel you, they'll call you won't they?

Nohomemadecandles · 28/12/2020 18:19

You're being silly. Go!

Lougle · 28/12/2020 18:21

You'll cause more inconvenience if you don't go than if you do.

Spied · 28/12/2020 18:21

I wouldn't throw away the opportunity to be seen tomorrow.
If you don't go then God knows when you'll next get an appointment.

ErrolTheDragon · 28/12/2020 18:22

And things are likely to get worse in hospitals over the next couple of months, not better. The best thing you can do is get your tests done ASAP, and minimise the risk of needing treatment which could have been avoided.

funtimefrank · 28/12/2020 18:23

Thank you! That's what I needed, just having a wobble

Go. Sounds like you are worried about this and are trying to talk yourself out if it. I do this too. You won't find out what may or may not be wrong if you don't go - get it over and done with and then you can move forward Flowers

TheoriginalLEM · 28/12/2020 18:26

Get it done while you can. Way to late to cancel now and how would you feel if you postpone and it's then delayed, youll be kicking yourself.

Good luck, you'll be fine x

Emeeno1 · 28/12/2020 18:27

Just to reassure you, our child had a non urgent hospital appointment last week and the hospital department was very quiet, the staff calm reassuring and lovely, and pleased I think to be seeing some patients.

Please go.

Lweji · 28/12/2020 18:29

If you've been given it, I'm sure it's not taking the place for anyone who needs it urgently.
You need it, and they won't be able to give it to anyone else, so it would be wasted.

I would wear a good surgical or good alternative mask, if you're not given one at the entrance. And disinfect hands like crazy.

RedskyAtnight · 28/12/2020 18:29

DD had an appointment in a big hospital just before Christmas. It felt safer than going to the supermarket.
And agree with others - it would be monumentally selfish to cancel at such short notice so that your appointment will be wasted. Chances are there is someone else that would love it (DD had to wait months as being in constant pain didn't count as being urgent).

funtimefrank · 28/12/2020 18:42

You are all right - it would be awfully selfish not to go and I need to put big girl pants on. Thank you for being the voices of reason.

I had a really similar thing a few weeks ago. I went. It was so quick. I was barely there.

I also wondered all the things you did! In the end, I decided that, if there was something, I'd feel really silly not going and missing it.

ErrolTheDragon · 28/12/2020 21:21

That's the spirit. Hope it all goes well.

Imiss2019 · 28/12/2020 21:29

I had a hospital appointment last week. The department was very quiet and the waiting room chairs were spaced 2 metres apart. As the nurse was coming out to call people she was disinfecting their chair as soon as the got up. Felt very safe

Imiss2019 · 28/12/2020 21:30

People were also being seen on time so no real waiting around

funtimefrank · 29/12/2020 12:06

I'm back! As you all said, felt very safe, no waiting etc.

Thank you for the words of sense.

Well done. Enjoy the rest of your day with that off your mind.

I had to go to hospital twice recently with my ds who had a broken nose. Everything was calm and staff quite upbeat and the place very hygienic.
