Anti vac family member

Any one got any anti vac family members. I don't have much family on my side but my husbands brother thinks it's a reset and says he won't be having the vaccine he's in his early 60s and it's caused arguments with his mother who I'd in her 80s and is due he second dose this week. Then my husbands niece same again but she will not wear a mask any where and is always getting into arguments with peollpe in the supermarket.

Oh god that’s awful! My family think that you can’t spread it within a family but are wary of strangers, very frustrating as they can’t understand why I want to distance (high risk separate household) you can’t reason with stupid!!!

nzborn · 28/12/2020 17:23

Treat them like they have covid ( because they're not avoiding it or having safe behavior ) and avoid.

U8myufo · 28/12/2020 17:26

Why does someone not wanting this particular vaccination make them an anti vaxxer? Or do they refuse all vaccines?

Sadless · 28/12/2020 17:30

I spoke to my sister in law last week about it and she said at the first lockdown her daugther was bring her shopping but wouldn't come in the house and was washing every thing now because she doesn't believe in the virus she just walks in and doesn't wash her hands or any thing. My sister in law and her husband are nearly 70 with health problems. But because she thinks like that she is putting them at risk now.
I am glad they don't visit us much.

We've all got a personal right to refuse it, but I think those that do might find themselves excluded from some functions, given most vaccines are about 90% effective and no one knows if they're the 10% it hasn't worked.

Princessbanana · 28/12/2020 17:44

Well you won’t have to worry as you will have the vaccine and will be protected!🙄

He should be left to decide, it's his body. I don't see the need to get into arguments

I think you are mixing up opinions around these particular vaccines with mask wearing. One thing is not related to the other.

Some people have concerns as the Covid vaccines are new and based on new technology (most are not conspiracy theorists, neither do they think it's a 'reset') but will be very meticulous around mask wearing as they do not want to catch the virus either.

The Covid vaccines are not yet proven to prevent transmission, so, as a PP has said, if you are vaccinated you will be protected (it is no business of yours what others decide to do).

Also the government have stated that there are currently no plans to place restrictions on those who refuse to have any potential Covid-19 vaccine

Mindymomo · 28/12/2020 19:10

Not family but have a friend who works in a care home and says she won’t be having vaccine, she is early 40’s so won’t be on the list for having it anytime soon. I wonder if she’ll change her mind when offered.

Our government has no plans currently but others will like yellow fever for example you cant go into some countries with out proof of vaccine for that im guessing you will have to prove it for travel in some places and when they do our government can do a u-turn and impose restrictions

trulydelicious · 28/12/2020 19:12

im guessing

Correct. You are just guessing

june2007 · 28/12/2020 19:20

I am dubious about the vaccine too. I am not an antivaxer though. Saying no to one vaccine or saying I want to wait and see if it works with no side effects, is not the same as saying I am anti all vaccines for all people.

Could be worse i could be stating my opinions as facts 🤷

By the late summer those people who wanted the vaccine will probably have had it, life will return to near normal & those that don't want the vaccine will just have to take their chances with the virus, we won't continue to shield them.

Yes, I think in 12-18months time it's likely many will have been vaccinated and there will be more information available regarding efficacy, side effects (if any), contraindications, etc.

At that point some of those who are hesitant now may be able to decide - others will need more time still

I don't think that those who will take the vaccine will continue to put life on hold for 12-18 months in order to protect those who decline. I do however accept that there is a difference between those who are hesitant about the speed of vaccine development & those who believe in shape shifting alien replicants etc.
