Prepping for Covid

I'm sorry if this has been done before. I'm not usually a prepper, but the cases around me are rocketing.
I just wondered, for people that have had Covid, what sort of things have helped you through the illness - over the counter medicines, specific food or drink etc? I have bought an oximeter already.
I'm really aware that if any of us suddenly get symptoms we can't go anywhere at that point so it seems sensible to think ahead.
Likewise are there any useful information sources that you really relied on, jobs that could be done in the home etc.

If you have money and space then enough easy food (tins of soup, uht milk, cereal etc) for 10 days so everyone is fed with minimal cooking.

Other than that - a working thermometer, paracetamol/ibruphrophen, tissues, throat pastilles, antiacid pills or liquid (oximeterwould be my no 1 thing but you already have one, well done). Spare asthma inhalers if you are asthmatic.

Painkillers!
My DS had Covid in April when you couldn't get hold of Paracetomol it was a nightmare as i was also struggling with painful Sciatica, fortunately GP prescribed them when she realised i couldn't buy any.

MistletoeandGin · 28/12/2020 15:32

We didn’t need anything except paracetamol which we have in case of illness anyway.

Chaotic45 · 28/12/2020 15:35

When DH was unwell we chose for him to isolate from the rest of the household in our room. This was for a number of reasons- not least trying to avoid us both feeling rotten at once so one of us was well enough to care for DC and each other.

So for us having a plan to facilitate this worked well- TV in bedroom etc etc.

Msloverlover · 28/12/2020 15:35

All the paracetamol

SabrinaTheMiddleAgedBitch · 28/12/2020 15:36

Paracetamol - consider how many adults are in the house and how quickly you would go through a normal box of paracetamol at the same time if you all had a temp? Likewise Calpol if you have any little ones

Oximeter if you can get one and a thermometer

Other than that normal cold/flu stuff for eg. things to soothe a sore throat.

SabrinaTheMiddleAgedBitch · 28/12/2020 15:36

*if you all had a temp at the same time

SilverGlitterBaubles · 28/12/2020 15:40

Cases rocketing does not mean lots of sickness, majority of cases are very mild or asymptomatic.

MrsCorden · 28/12/2020 15:44

This is all really helpful, thank you. Great point about additional inhalers. I wouldn't have thought of that.

Enough easy cook/easy eat food for 2 weeks. List of meals to choose from. Think of breakfasts and snacks/treats as well as main meals.
Enough loo roll, toiletries etc so you won’t run out. Include a few nicer things like indulgent bath stuff etc seeing as you’ll have more time and might feel like crap.
Enough household cleaning supplies - don’t want to run out of laundry stuff and have no clean pants.
More strepsils and paracetamol /flu capsules than you think!
Any prescribed or OTC meds you might usually need - eg thinks like stomach upset meds, cystitis, cold sore meds etc - would be PITA if you needed them during isolation and were out.
Contraception if applicable!
Projects ready to keep you busy if you’re not actually feeling poorly. Write a list of them, get supplies in case.
Supplies for pets as well if needed - their food, treats, medicines as well. Ideas of games to keep doggo entertained if he can’t be walked.

I expect we all have thermometers now! Pulse oximeters are really cheap on Amazon now if you’re more likely to be vulnerable.

Vicks first defence to reduce virus in nose in early stages, first signs here in everyone were sneezing and sore throat.

Sambucol extra defence liquid to reduce virus in throat and boost immune system.

Vitamin D and multivitamins (DH has found a spray helpful as due to nausea and vomiting he can't do tablets).

Soluble paracetamol also useful if struggling with tablets.

Ibuprofen gel can be used instead of tablets for body aches.

Tissues

Bucket (see above)

Thermometer

Hot water bottle/wheatie bags (to keep warm if cold and soothe back/joint/abdominal pain if you get it).

Chicken soup

Smoothies

Fresh juices

Honey

Herbal tea to soothe gut such as peppermint, camomile, fennel.

Disinfectant wipes for cleaning handles, taps etc...

Audio books.

Extra pillows to enable sleeping more upright.

All things currently in use here.

yahyahs22 · 28/12/2020 16:23

Multi vits and meal replacement shakes.

BlackeyedSusan · 28/12/2020 16:26

Drinks: long life fruit juices
Squash
Powdered/long life milk

Food:ready to eat custard, rice pudding, jellies, icepops, just add water couscous or noodle sachets.( Mugshots) cupsoup. Tins of curry and veg to heat up in microwave if feeling shit.

IE things to tempt you to eat when you are feeling poorly. Things that are easy to eat.

If you have little kids help yourself food:
Small cartons of fruit juice, some small bottles of drinks
Cereal bars, bread sticks, pots of jelly and fruit, boxes of raisins, crackers etc. Things they can get their own snack and save you the effort.
