Would you book a holiday

For May next year...

The price is really good for a 5* in Greece for end of May/beginning of June. Is it too much of a risk?

I'm hoping with the vaccine rollout things might be better by then

Just having the same conversation! Yes l would if it had free cancellation or you could just change the dates bit wouldn't look forward to it too much just in case it had to be put back!

Mincepiehangover · 28/12/2020 10:24

But

Mincepiehangover · 28/12/2020 10:24

Stupid phone!

HasaDigaEebowai · 28/12/2020 10:24

No. But DH is currently downstairs googling holidays for the summer. I think sensible people will probably still be staying at home unfortunately.

Sittinginmyoodie · 28/12/2020 10:24

Nah, I wouldn't.

We all need new passports, so I can't be bothered shelling out the better part of £400 before we even go anywhere. But even for UK breaks, I'm reluctant. We had a UK break last year and luckily were able to go. But it wasn't confirmed until two days before we went!

weddingplanning15 · 28/12/2020 10:25

I know it's so hard not knowing what to do. It does have covid cover, cancellation, etc, but when we had our holiday in May cancelled it took ages to get our refund it was a nightmare.

I don't think I can have another year with no holiday and nothing to look forward to. Just the thought of it is depressing. Sad

No way

I genuinely don't understand why people can't just hold off on holiday travel until things are clearly under control, and I say that as someone who loves travelling myself.

BlackCatShadow · 28/12/2020 10:27

I think it's borderline. Things are going to get really bad over this winter, and then hopefully calm down a bit in the spring. Japan has just banned entry for all foreigners until the end of January.

I think it's a gamble. Make sure it's fully refundable if things are still bad or you can afford to lose the money or quarantine for 14 days, if necessary.

We're hoping to travel to visit my parents next summer, but I'm still nervous about it.

IcedPurple · 28/12/2020 10:28

If it's fully refundable I don't see why not.

dreamingbohemian · 28/12/2020 10:28

Sorry x-post

Can you create something to look forward to closer to home?

Mintjulia · 28/12/2020 10:29

No. I have vague plans to take DS to Canada at October half term but I won't do anything about it until April.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 28/12/2020 10:30

No. Too uncertain and we have agreed no holidays until it’s safe again. The virus goes from place to place through travel so don't want to add to that for a personal want.

We will save and have an extra special holiday hopefully in 2022.

BlackCatShadow · 28/12/2020 10:34

Sorry, crossed posts. I agree, look for other things to look forward to.

We haven't seen my parents in over a year. It's tough. Every time I Skype them I wonder if I will ever see them again. They are both high risk if they catch Covid. There are bigger things to worry about right now than a holiday in the sun.

TheoriginalLEM · 28/12/2020 10:35

We dont holiday abroad, we camp but we didnt this year and unlikely to next year assites became too busy. For me, holidays are about being away from people

SnowfallSnowball · 28/12/2020 10:36

Like others have said if it has free cancellation etc then why not? You may run the risk of it being cancelled of course but you never know. I’m planning on booking a holiday for next December, with my fingers crossed!

CarryOnFestiveNamechanging · 28/12/2020 10:37

I don’t think I’d book anything before October half term.

If it’s fully refundable and booked in a credit card I guess you’d have nothing to lose though.

TokyoSushi · 28/12/2020 10:37

I keep looking, they are so cheap at the moment! Hoping to go to Lanzarote in the summer. Hopefully we'll be able to get the balance right of booking when there's more certainly, but when the prices are still fairly low.

Hoping to book around March to go in August - we'll see!

Delatron · 28/12/2020 10:38

If it has a good cancellation policy I don’t see why not.

By May many vulnerable people will have been vaccinated (hopefully) so we will be in a different situation. If personally you don’t want to travel that’s different.

We’re booking things up for May and will start to plan summer. We managed to get away in July last year in that brief window where cases were low and we were allowed to travel abroad. So I can’t see why, with a vaccine this year won’t be better.

MoirasRoses · 28/12/2020 10:38

We are debating it. Next year is our final summer before DD starts school & we’ll have to spend ludicrous amounts on school holiday holidays. We had planned our small wedding & mega honeymoon for 2021.. 🥴 I’ve frankly shelved the wedding idea for the first 6 months as I cannot cope with it being on, off, cancelled. But so long as I can get a full refund, I’d go on holiday! We had 3 UK holidays this year & they were SO nice! We’ve got centre parks booked in next year in May 🙏🏼

womanaf · 28/12/2020 10:39

We’ve booked a UK holiday (self-contained, self-catering) because we didn’t think abroad would be viable.

JassyRadlett · 28/12/2020 10:40

We’ve booked for central Europe in August on a fully refundable basis (regardless of reason can cancel up to a week before). I wouldn’t book anything not fully refundable at this point though. And we won’t book transport until much closer to the time.

We’ve booked May in the UK on the same basis. I think May will still be pretty marginal TBH.

badpuma · 28/12/2020 10:42

We've booked for north Spain in July plus ferry crossing to Bilbao. Both ferry and accommodation are refundable and would have operated this year at the same point in the year.

Chanandlerbong01 · 28/12/2020 10:44

My worry would be having to isolate when there. It’s fine saying you can move it/get your money back if the flight gets cancelled but what if it’s not cancelled and you have to spend 14 days in your hotel room.

leafygarden42 · 28/12/2020 10:44
