How is everyone getting tested with no symptoms?

Crunchymum · 27/12/2020 23:12

Every other thread on here seems to be full of people being tested who (according to the guidelines) shouldn't be legible for testing?

"We all had vomiting and tested positive but DH had no symptoms and tested negative".... why (and how??) did you all test?

"I had no symptoms but had to test to fly"

"DC wasn't himself so nursery asked me to get him tested"

I know some people are tested through work but most people aren't?

Are people fibbing about having symptoms?

Yes they are. Or getting it through the Zoe app.

dottiedaisee · 27/12/2020 23:14

Have you got symptoms?

ShivD · 27/12/2020 23:14

Private tests or when I recently had a test for symptoms I was offered to add my family member onto my slot, we hadn’t been given this option previously though.

Bunnybigears · 27/12/2020 23:15

My parents are getting a private test done so they can fly. Lots of people just lie.

colouringindoors · 27/12/2020 23:15

Probably. Which may be why I've been unable to get a test today without driving an hour each way (with a fever).

RAINSh0wers · 27/12/2020 23:16

Local to me (tier 4 area) as the numbers have been so high, temporary covid test centres have been set up and emails were sent out to secondary school pupils encouraging them and their entire households to be tested regardless of whether they had any symptoms or not. I would imagine we’re not the only area this has happened.

People who need a negative test to fly tend to be getting private tests I think.

Lairyfightzzzz · 27/12/2020 23:16

Yes I did fib because the government's list of three main symptoms is utter horseshit.

Currently 5 members of my family are isolating including two elderly and vulnerable (one household) because a colleague of one of the household members attended work with a sore throat. She wanted to isolate and take a test but was told by her employer no, that wasn't a symptom and she had to come in or she would be sacked.

It was covid, she infected my family member that day and eight other people at her workplace.

Lying about symptoms to get a test?

frankie001 · 27/12/2020 23:16

I get tested through work. Good job as I got a positive result, and had been planning on visiting my 100 year old grandmother. Now in isolation.

Labobo · 27/12/2020 23:17

I just lied and said I had symptoms. I had to travel 300 miles to help my very vulnerable parents settle into a care home and understandably wasn't allowed to be with them in the care home unless I had a valid negative test from less than 48hours earlier. So I claimed symptoms, got the test, settled my parents in and then came home. When rules are truly stupid, you have to play them. Surely it makes sense for people without symptoms to test if they need to have contact with others, as they are more likely to spread unwittingly!

Pumpkin314 · 27/12/2020 23:18

Not sure where else but I live on the Wirral and testing is available for anyone. There are 4 testing centres for asymptomatic testing that are separate from the testing sites for people with symptoms.

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 27/12/2020 23:18

Some lie about symptoms
Some get a private test
Some areas encourage regular tests (Liverpool/Bolton a few weeks ago)
Relative in Scotland has one every time she visits her relative who lives in a care home (home does the lateral flow test)

ImHereForTheEntertainment · 27/12/2020 23:18

My friend lied about symptoms for a test. No idea why. She felt absolutely fine. She tested positive so did her fh and 2 dcs.
Because she felt fine and 'bright as a button' none of them isolated! Because why should she stay in for 2 weeks when she had Xmas shopping to crack on with.
Honestly some people!

amicissimma · 27/12/2020 23:19

If you look at the daily numbers the number of positives is almost always under 10% of tests taken. Over 90% of people tested don't test positive.

YellowHighlighterPen · 27/12/2020 23:19

A couple I know had cold symptoms but none of the 3 CV symptoms needed for testing. They both tested positive.

VashtaNerada · 27/12/2020 23:20

I’m a teacher and where I live I get tested without symptoms (for free). It looks like it’s run by local government as opposed to an outsourced private company but I could be wrong.

CryMeAnAquifer · 27/12/2020 23:20

We have community testing in our (Tier 4) area so even if you have no symptoms you can walk in at a testing site including a site specifically for those with no symptoms, you can collect home tests and drop them back off for them to send to lab.

VashtaNerada · 27/12/2020 23:20

We’re also testing all secondary school children over Christmas here as well.

HollyGenneroMcClane · 27/12/2020 23:20

My first test was in summer and because i live in at that time the covid capital, the council wanted everyone tested.
This week’s test I just ticked to say i had one of the three main symptoms. Turns out nobody does a lie detector test. Also, it was positive.

Longdistance · 27/12/2020 23:21

My local council said there were tests with those with no symptoms. You could get yourself tested to see if you are a symptomatic. Tier 4. Check your local council website or their fb page.

Maryann1975 · 27/12/2020 23:21

Some areas do not require the main three symptoms to get a test. In our county, the council provided a list of lesser symptoms that would qualify you for testing.

Tummy ache, sore throat, general aches and pains, not feeling right, having a cold, fatigue, unexplained rashes, I can’t remember the whole list, but the symptoms were all ones that are on the Zoe app, so COVID related.

I have no idea how many county’s have adopted more of a mass testing strategy. Ours did based on high numbers, something has worked and the numbers are coming down now. They are also offering tests for those with no symptoms, but it’s really hard to get a slot for these as they are in such demand.

BananaPop2020 · 27/12/2020 23:22

@ImHereForTheEntertainment your mate sounds like a right peach 😐

Houseplantmad · 27/12/2020 23:22

In our area too we've been told to select the "I've been asked by my local authority to get a test" option to get DCs tested before they are due to return to school. I've had my second test in a fortnight - the first as a contact and now because I have symptoms - not any of the three symptoms but the same symptoms as my friend who tested positive today.

LindaEllen · 27/12/2020 23:26

There's mass testing in my area, and people are encouraged to attend for testing weekly.

Summersalt · 27/12/2020 23:31

Liverpool city region has had mass testing for a while now, people are actively encouraged to go for a test without symptoms. This has apparently been implemented (or at least started to be) in 67 other areas.
