Are we expecting universities to re-open in January for students going from tier 4 to a lower tier?

Just that really. DD is home in London tier 4 and wants to return to Manchester which is in tier 3 next weekend.

I wasn't sure whether the travelling for education only covered the one getting the education. I guess "or caring responsibilities" covers a lot as well though. Not sure whether it covers a hotel stay ...

I've found the guidance for my DS returning to Sussex. Its describes the group he is in the the date for his return and that he needs to get a test. But he is in the first year in campus accommodation.

But I can't find anything from Manchester Met. She will go back at the weekend - she can always come home again if she gets low.

I doubt the government would order universities to simply shut as one, they won’t fund that and two, they won’t want to delay cohorts of trainee nurses, healthcare professionals and medics.

Mine's going back tomorrow, from tier 3 to tier 2.

The guidance has already been published as several posters have linked to.

However as it is guidance students are not legally obligated to stick to those dates. They should follow the guideline set by their unis, which may depend on their course, and be prepared to take two lateral flow tests pointless They should NOT though then return back to parents, unless one of the exemptions applies (eg health) - this is a legal requirement.

All the guidance was written a while ago wasn't it, and this government seem to love last minute decision making and u-turns!

Yep. This is my bet too and certainly I am planning for this as a a member of academic staff. We need to be really, really cautious and follow all guidelines, but these students need and deserve to be back at uni. They've had to sacrifice so much already. Believe me, most of us are raring to teach!

At our uni we're expecting education to remain exempt for all the previous reasons, and students to return regardless of.home or destination tier. Lots of planning for LF tests several times in first week back with that used by unis as clearance for face to face activities.such as sport. Unclear what it means for teaching but certainly at ours there has been relentless pressure on staff to offer face to face teaching and support services. I envisage staff will not be reassured by LF test reliability, and the fact that students can get a negative test and mix in-between the test and the face to face activity. But I've no doubt they'll all go back just as they did previously. If schools are reopening the.education exemption will apply at all.levels. And it covers travelling for the purposes of.accessing education.

It was updated following the south east and London going into tier 4.
