  • @EwDavid has your friend previously had facial fillers as I’ve read that they can react to the vaccine?*

Source???

bananaflavoured · 27/12/2020 22:47

Had first vaccine a couple of weeks ago. No side effects or reactions

MeowPurrGrr · 27/12/2020 22:50

I’ve had the first part and due the second next week (NHS nurse). Had a sore arm for a couple of days as expected from any IM injection and had a slight headache for a day...but I’m quite a ‘headachy’ person anyway so it could’ve been anything. But otherwise absolutely fine any dandy.

sproutsandparsnips · 27/12/2020 22:51

Sore arm for 24 hours. No other side effects at all.

storminasnowglobe · 27/12/2020 22:56

I had it on Christmas Eve (NHS). The jab itself didn't hurt at all at the time but the injection site was a little tender for 24-36 hours afterwards. Nothing major though. Feel great and so delighted to have had it.

EwDavid · 27/12/2020 22:57

Don't want to feed into any conspiracies but yes she has had facial fillers. No idea whether that has anything to do with the reaction though!

Mulhollandmagoo · 27/12/2020 23:00

@jcyclops

No medical issues of note, but I keep getting the urge to buy Microsoft products.
😂😂😂😂
CoffeeandCroissant · 27/12/2020 23:01

This is the data from the trials (Tozinameran = Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine which is the only current vaccine being used in the UK.)

Severe injection pain:
Tozinameran, 1% (placebo rate was 0)
Moderna vax, 4% (placebo

eeeyulesmiles · 27/12/2020 23:08

It's so good that this thread exists! To have reached the point of comparing vaccine side effects!

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 27/12/2020 23:13

@SirGawain I'm not the pp who stated that facial fillers could interact with the vaccine. However I'm not sure why you're sneering at her, mockingly asking if the daily mail gave her this info. It was actually the United States Food and Drug Administration who reported this potential side effect.

Regardless, it isn't an actual contraindication to having the vaccine and people can still go ahead and get the second dose.

Onetimenamechanger · 27/12/2020 23:22

@EwDavid

I had mine done last week on the same day as my friend (both nurses). I was fine, a bit tired but nothing significant. She felt really quite unwell the following day and about 24 hours later developed quite bad facial swelling which she was given antihistamines for at a&e. She will still be allowed the second injection though.
Allowed the second injection? Will she be taking it?
BunsyGirl · 28/12/2020 00:02

@SirGawain why are you so rude. It has been widely reported as a side effect of the Moderna vaccine. I appreciate that this person will have had the Pfizer vaccine but I wondered whether there could be a similar immune system response. The vaccines do seem to be causing issues for those with allergies. I, myself, have had a severe reaction to a medication so I am not certain whether I will be able to be vaccinated. It is something that interests me, hence my question. No need for snotty comments.

Lindy2 · 28/12/2020 00:07

My mum had very very slight tenderness in her arm for one day. She had to actually press on the arm to feel the tenderness it was so mild. Since that first day absolutely no side effects what so ever.

BunsyGirl · 28/12/2020 00:08

@EwDavid Really interesting. It’s not a conspiracy. Google it and you will see that it has been a widely reported side effect to the Moderna vaccine. As I have mentioned above, I was just wondering whether the Pfizer vaccination could cause the same reaction.

bananaflavoured · 28/12/2020 00:37

@BunsyGirl
Thank you for the link to your "sources".
I'm not sure Grazia magazine or ABC news are the sources that I would necessarily trust. I'm not disputing your claims necessarily, but when I asked for a source, I would prefer a report from a scientific journal such as the Lancet, or a link to the MHRA report on this.
As far as I am aware, Modena has not been approved in the UK yet. Indeed the MHRA are concentrating on the Oxford AZ vaccine at present. Perhaps your sources come from American studies? Would be great to get some further reputable info on this.
To my knowledge, no such statistically significant similar side effects have been seen in the Pfizer ( the only one approved for UK to date) as yet.

bananaflavoured · 28/12/2020 01:04

@BunsyGirl
FYI I found the 17th December 2020 FDA report on the Moderna vaccine, which states :

"Throughout the safety follow-up period to date, there were three reports of facial paralysis (Bell’s palsy) in the vaccine group and one in the placebo group. Currently available information is insufficient to determine a causal relationship with the vaccine"

In other words, there simply isn't enough info yet to determine if the vaccine was responsible. And google isn't always the most reliable source.
But Moderna isn't approved in UK yet any way

cbt944 · 28/12/2020 01:30

Thank you for the link to your "sources".

Rude! As you could not bring yourself to read the Grazia link, I did it for you. A short article, it states:

Following warnings by the MHRA [Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency] in the UK that those with a history of allergic reaction should not receive the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, the United States Food and Drug Administration has reported side effects from the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine after instances of swelling in patients who have previously received dermal fillers.

A 54-page FDA Briefing Document about the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine seen by Grazia - which can be read in full here - as part of Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee Meeting, reported three instances of facial swelling following the vaccine in patients with dermal fillers, two of which were considered SAEs - Serious Adverse Effects. The findings conclude, "It is possible the localised swelling in these cases is due to an inflammatory reaction from interaction between the immune response after vaccination and the dermal filler."

I find this very interesting.

BunsyGirl · 28/12/2020 01:55

@bananaflavoured I have already pointed out that it was the Moderna vaccine and that the person in question wouldn’t have had that. I can’t remember where I read the original report but it caught my attention as I am very interested in potential allergic reactions to the vaccinations. Not because I am a conspiracy theorist but because I had a severe allergic reaction to a medication as a child and was hospitalised as a result.

BunsyGirl · 28/12/2020 02:02

@cbt944 Thank you. I can’t believe how rude and condescending some people are on here! I also found it very interesting. Time will tell whether there is a link...

Ilovesausages · 28/12/2020 02:06

When I had the flu jab in the autumn I was advised to hold some ice on the injection site for a while when I got home. I did , and I think it helped reduce the soreness.

The year before I couldn’t sleep on my arm and this time I could.
