Any child tested positive but had no symptoms

Does anyone here have a child or know of a child, maybe from school, who tested positive for covid but had no symptoms?

Just asking.

I know a child who is a close contact of a teacher and currently the child has no symptoms. The child was tested last week and it was negative or not detected. Going for another test tomorrow or Tuesday. Hoping for a negative result.

Wrecking my brains on all of the possibilities.

Why is the child being tested with no symptoms?

Nitw1t · 27/12/2020 15:40

8 children in Dc1 class tested positive only one had symptoms (just a temp one evening).

They all got tested when a parent or a sibling had symptoms.

My 14 year old tested positive 5 days before any symptoms.

Yes, I know of a couple of children who have tested positive with no symptoms. One tested as part of a programme and one as she was going into hospital for an operation.
I also know many children (including my own) who were identified as close contacts of staff/pupils at school who didn’t go on to catch it.
Why is the child you know being tested?

Yes, a child in my DC’s class tested positive but had no symptoms. He was tested because a number of other family members had tested positive.

Why are you surprised by this OP? Not everyone that is a close contact goes on to develop Covid symptoms although may be asymptomatic. DD has had two incidents of close contact at school and didn't develop any but isolated. DN tested positive after a case in her bubble but never had any symptoms and none of the family became ill all tested negative.

It doesn’t matter if they’ve had close contact with someone who is Covid positive. If they have no symptoms they don’t need a test. They definitely don’t need repeated tests.

Apparently 1 in 3 people have no symptoms at all. (Read that on Norfolk and Norwich hospital website). So it’s more than possible...!

Close contact of a covid positive teacher
Same as my 7 year old. She didn’t catch it.

Yes loads. There was an outbreak at my kids school. Getting on fir 30 cases by the time they broke up. A few kids were symptomatic, had positive tests, then a couple of families tested kids with no symptoms, they came back positive, so more people started doing it

Tulipvase · 27/12/2020 15:53

The one positive case we had in our 400 plus primary school had no symptoms. I’m not sure why she was tested - family members presumably.

TicTacTwo · 27/12/2020 16:25

1/3 of positive people have no symptoms.

When they tested uni students only 10% had symptoms.

One of my pupils tested positive after no symptoms. She was tested as a parent was positive. Resulted in most of the class isolating but no one else became positive.
