Vomiting as a Symptom?

housemdwaswrong · 27/12/2020 14:46

Hi.

I was just wondering, based on other's experiences, if vomiting is a symptom of Covid? Google brings up various answers.

I had a rough night, waking at 5am with horrendous stomach cramps, which culminated in me vomiting 4 times. I'd been feeling a bit off colour all day, a bit coldy but nothing major. My period is due tomorrow and I usually cramp but nothing like last night, so I assumed I'd eaten something that didn't agree with me. I can't remember ever vomiting as an adult (apart from alcohol excess in my early 20s ;) ).

I just wondered about other people's experiences, before I waste a test.

I don't have a cough and my temperature is not well regulated because I have lupus so no idea if I have a temperature or not.

Thanks

I haven't heard of vomiting being a symptom. A bit of diarrhoea seems quite common. More likely you have a norovirus??

starrynight19 · 27/12/2020 14:52

I had nausea for a few days and 24 hours of vomiting. No temp at all.

housemdwaswrong · 27/12/2020 14:52

Thanks @majesticwhine, that's why I thought, just a bug of some description. Just being cautious because of personal circumstances, and I figured there's plenty of experience here to tap into.

Thank you. It was a real shock! :)

Nausea and vomiting, often with diarrhoea, can be symptoms of COVID and quite a few people start out like that and then go on to develop the more typical symptoms. I've not heard of anyone who has tested positive with vomiting and no other symptoms at all though.

MrsFluffyMuff · 27/12/2020 14:55

I know someone who had vomiting as a symptom, he couldn't keep any food down and felt very fluey. Got tested and it was positive. Ended up in hospital on anti sickness meds and fluids

Daydrambeliever · 27/12/2020 14:55

My relative had covid and couldn't keep anything down for days. It also presents in children as gastric with v and D.

housemdwaswrong · 27/12/2020 14:56

@starrynight19 thank you...I think! Hmm. I thought I had heard about it but couldn't find anything official. I'll have a think.

I have tested positive twice. I had sickness and diarrhoea both times.

AstridAv · 27/12/2020 15:06

I vomited with covid

housemdwaswrong · 27/12/2020 15:10

Bugger. Thank you all for taking the time to reply.

I've booked a test for 5.00 today. Better safe than sorry.

@porcupineintherough that was my first thought too, but I take a cocktail of immunosupressants and steroids alongside other drugs so not sure how it would present initially. I have a cold but that's about it apart from the vomiting and nausea.

Playing it safe and getting tested based on the responses here. Hopefully just a bug.

My friend tested positive, had days of awful vomiting and had to be given anti sickness meds. Hope you feel better soon.

AethelsWhiteGoose · 27/12/2020 15:18

Just to add, she developed the other more common symptoms within a week.

housemdwaswrong · 27/12/2020 15:25

Thank you. That's useful to know.

I had no typical symptoms inc. no temperature. Aches and pains and feeling faint. I also had some nausea. I tested positive but really didn’t think I had it.

Tanith · 27/12/2020 15:39

I think Dominic Cummings' wife started covid with vomiting.

Porcupineintherough · 27/12/2020 15:43

Probably a good idea to test OP - and hope you make a speedy recovery, no matter which bug you've caught.

housemdwaswrong · 27/12/2020 15:51

Thanks all. Leaving in half hour for a drive through test, so at least it should be ruled out. I'll update when the result comes through.

Friend had it was nauseous and vomiting

LittleSpyintheSky · 27/12/2020 18:17

Just come out of hospital due to COVID. Very nice lady in the next bed had virtually no symptoms except for vomiting.

It finds your own personal weaknesses.

Doc told me there are absolutely no certainties with symptoms. Everyone is different.

Cornettoninja · 27/12/2020 18:55

Just to echo that it is a symptom but a much less common one. I saw it listed on an NHS screen shot about which symptoms people may need longer than the standard isolation time for.

Hope everything settles down quickly for you either way.

Ladydowntheroad · 27/12/2020 22:10

We are just coming out the other side of covid, both my kids main symtom was stomach cramps. Both vomited with them. A few days later I got the same, apart from my youngest none of us got a cough it was very much a gastric illness for the 3 of us. DH tested negative and had no symptoms.

Stillgoings · 28/12/2020 07:44

I started with.vomiting, diarrhea and stomach cramps on the 23rd December. I reported on the Zoe app and they asked me.to get a test. Just got results today and it's negative. I didn't get any other symptoms.

housemdwaswrong · 28/12/2020 15:12

Update: negative result.

So just a cold, accompanied by a random outburst of stomach cramps and vomiting. Not had any today though so all good.
Thanks all.
