Bus journey to get takeaway

generallygenial · 27/12/2020 09:33

In tier 4 area.

Is this allowed? Otherwise how will places make any money if only those in walking distance can go there, and a high concentration of food/drink businesses? Buses all deserted round here.

Most places doing takeaway will be on deliveroo/ just eat/ Uber eats, or have their own delivery person, surely?! It’s allowed if it’s an essential journey, as far as I know. And getting food is an essential journey. It’d be cold by the time you got it home though!

Mousehole10 · 27/12/2020 09:45

Well technically it’s not an essential journey is it? I don’t understand why you need to get a bus to get a takeaway. Everyone round here either drives, gets delivery from the takeaway or uses deliveroo.

InTheLongGrass · 27/12/2020 09:46

Everywhere delivers here. Even restaurants who never normally did takeout deliver.

🚗🚕🚙🚘🚖

You will be spoiling the magic of lockdown.
Buying curry from nissanhuts you would never normally use.
Get it delivered.

generallygenial · 27/12/2020 09:51

It's a very niche drink place. I didn't think they were on deliveroo, but they now are! Hooray! Delivery only £1.99

No car living in central London (why do some people not understand the concept of others not driving Hmm?)

Good news that it delivers OP. But in case a similar situation arises again, the Tier 4 rules do allow you to go out to collect a takeaway and don't specify how you travel there!

For instance you can leave home to buy food or medicine, or to collect any items - including food or drink - ordered through click-and-collect or as a takeaway.

BethHarmon · 27/12/2020 10:19

Seems like a lot of arsing about for a takeaway, you could probably cook something & wash up in less time than it would take to collect.
Unless you’re desperate, have no food in, and enjoy bus journeys Grin

Buses feel extremely safe in London right now. Very empty and near-100% mask compliance.

Not my experience at all! Around 50% mask compliance and no more empty than they would be at 6am when I leave for work
GawdrestyeJerryMentlemen · 27/12/2020 10:26

1.99 delivery. Central London. Who is it? I want a go!

GawdrestyeJerryMentlemen · 27/12/2020 10:26

And I totally get the driving thing. Peasants! It's cargo bikes for us!!

Ahh the innocence of those that live in built up areas....none of those delivery companies deliver where I live. We're not even that far from the nearest town, a 15min drive. Luckily one of the local pubs is doing a delivery service.
InTheLongGrass · 27/12/2020 15:09

Whatever I'd imagine you dont have a frequent bus service either than!
We can get delivery, but DH had to justify his work parking permit as the journey would be unfeasible by public transport. He needed to leave at 8.30pm to be at work before 9.30 the following day. Needless to say, he couldn't get home before the time ge would need to leave....

Nope buses are rubbish. Infrequent and not even at regular times. They changed the timetable early last year (before covid) and the amount of times I've had to tell older people that are waiting for the once half hourly bus that they've got another 1.5hrs before its due now is, well sad. I have to get the 6am bus to get to the hospital (30min drive) by 10.30am.

It's not so much not understanding the concept of not driving, rather why you wouldn't just order, and what the hell can be so great about a takeout to mean you'd willingly take a bus in the middle of a national pandemic.
caringcarer · 28/12/2020 12:22

Everywhere is delivering now. We have a New Years Eve meal booked for 5 takeaway delivery from our favourite Italian restaurant. We want to support them as afraid they won't make it if no trade.

RoganJosh · 28/12/2020 12:26

Essential travel only on buses isn’t it?

I would think most people either live where there is delivery service or have a car?

ILookAtTheFloor · 28/12/2020 12:29

I live rurally in tier 4 and not everything delivers here. No Subway or Maccies for example. Luckily I have a car.

I think it counts as an essential journey.

ragged · 28/12/2020 12:36

how far away is it, OP?
I suspect I'd take bus if > 1 mile, or take bus for return if > 1 mile.

Twickerhun · 28/12/2020 12:51

Wouldn’t it be cold by the time you got the bus back? And smelly for any other passengers.
