I’m the papers today. This looks grim for Spring, so much uncertainty around schools with these new strains.

I need to believe the vaccines will be our saviour.

To be honest I think even with this evolving information, EY and primaries won’t close. The government are dead set against it.

I'm not so sure. They've moved from 'All schools must stay open' to 'All children must have access to education'. And to be honest, the government can't afford to be set against it when it's driving case numbers. I agree they might try just secondaries first though, which would be yet another silly half arsed move. Then when they have to close primaries as well it will mean the secondary kids have been off for weeks for no purpose and the real lockdown only starts then, and they look weak and flappy and ill-prepared - but more importantly, many teachers and families will have become seriously ill or died as a result of the delay.

@DfEisashambles she does but online chatting is not the same. Our school has been fine, large primary in South East city. but I can see that the situation generally is really not good.

@stuffedforchristmas do you mean staying at home and being home educated? You can’t have some at home and some at school being taught by the same teacher - the experience for those at home would be shit.

Eeek-I can see that something just like this will happen. How depressing.

Thanks.

My children are ahead, actually.

My ds has been home, doing remote learning, since half term - we have worked incredibly hard (with the school) to make sure his experience isn't shit.

@Arcadia Agreed, it is very tough for only children. Not having any face-to-face contact with another child for about 3 months in the first lockdown was the worst part for DS. He really struggled and cried a lot. We encouraged him to chat online to his friends, which was OK initially, but pretty soon they ran out of things to talk about and it made him feel worse.

We're in Tier 4 so DS cannot legally meet with another child during the holidays. I can go for a walk with a friend but DS is too young to go out without an accompanying adult. If schools close, I hope some consideration is given to this.

@HollyGenneroMcClane You had me convinced you were one of the Them. Bingo for certain.

@Arcadia mine is an only and she was not ok during lockdown. Not ok at all. Luckily she really enjoyed being back and all was well. I am starting to prepare her for being at home again, but I agree there should be a bubble possibility for only children. If it’s not ok for single adults (like me) it’s not ok for single children either.
