Any in Cambridge know how the vaccine is being distributed?

I'm worried about my 99 year old, frail, confused grandpa.

Here in my home town the vaccine has been distributed via GP surgeries. My very elderly neighbours have already received the first jab.

But where he lives in Cambridge, they've heard nothing. Though if anyone phoned him he (a) might not hear (b) might not understand and (c) might not remember what he was told.

Does anyone here know what's happening in Cambridge? I'm trying to work out if there's anyone I can phone to get him on a list.

Have you been on the surgery website?

In Harston our GP has said that they're not doing any vaccines and it will be done centrally at Addenbrooks!!!
This is so strange and I don't understand why.

My elderly relative got vaccinated 2 weeks ago at Addenbrookes. He called for an appointment.

In Cambridgeshire, 95yo DM done last week at GP.

Cambridgeshire Gp's didn't sign the contract to give the vaccine so it will be given by other means, Maybe the local hospitals.

An 80 year old I know in Cambridge called Addenbrookes ‘50 times’ before she got through and was given an appointment.

Where I am my grandmother got called by her GP to attend, so anecdotally a different approach being taken in Cambridge.

Would your grandpa, or someone on behalf of your grandpa, be able to commit a chunk of time to calling Addenbrookes, getting an appointment, and to then taking your grandpa?

It must be so worrying, especially with Cambs now in tier 4.

Sounds like Addenbrookes then. Thanks everyone. I'll see what I can work out after the Bank Holiday.

@ihatethecold - maybe just some areas of Cambs, as ours are definitely doing it. They were really well organised. Sending out two appointments a couple of days ahead of them starting.

BigSkyLife I think Cambridge city itself is being covered by Addenbrookes, from what I've heard and what others have said here. Elsewhere in the county, it's GPs. GPs are working well here in Hampshire, and I think it would be an easier system for the extremely elderly to navigate, but what can you do? Everything online asks people not to call to chase vaccine appointments, but what else can you do if the patient is unlikely to cope with a phone call themselves?

Not all GP's have the capacity, either physical space or staff wise to commit to this programme. I'm a practice nurse in NW and our patients are having to travel to the hub 15 miles away.
