DD has a temperature, a bit of a cough but a really sharp pain in her stomach.

I’m booking her for a test but the stomach ache is throwing me a bit.

Has anyone else experience this?!

She has a cough and a temperature, she needs a test.

My teen had a terrible headache, full of cold and sore throat, dizziness, pain in chest & stomach and nausea but no high temp or cough. Completely lost taste and smell. This was a few weeks ago and still not got taste and smell back properly.

Mine had a runny nose and low fever. She tested positive and has developed the cough a few days later. She's not particularly ill.

DS had a fever and was in bed feeling hot and shivery for 48 hours. That was Covid for him - I was very relieved. Needless to say, having caught it off him, my experience is slightly more arduous!

HairyFloppins · 26/12/2020 11:09

DD 19 had a slight temp, slight cough, tummy and back pain only lasted a few days.

DD 14 had nothing more than a slight temp, blocked ear and a blocked nose. No cough at all.

Stomach ache/upset stomach can definitely be a symptom in teens.

Of course, it could be something else, too.

That's why you need to get her tested.

Has she taken anything for the fever, as this could also be causing the stomach pain?

No personal experience, but have read that kids (which may or may nor include teenagers...) tend to have GI tract issues more often, so that could be it.

However, sharp stomach pain can be lots of other things that just coincided with a bit of a cold, so I would keep monitoring the situtation and not just assume is part of the same thing.

Fingers crossed is nothing!

Lots of adults with Covid also present with gastric symptoms. My colleague was admitted to hospital with dehydration from vomiting/diarrheah and tested positive with Covid when she was admitted. The only other symptom she had was a bad headache.

I think studies have shown that in children, stomach upsets are the most common symptom.

Porcupineintherough · 26/12/2020 11:58

Stomach aches and pains are v typical w COVID so do get her tested. But yes, if the pain gets worse or you are worried get medical advice. Am assuming you mean an actual stomach pain rather than pain further down the abdomen?

Ladydowntheroad · 26/12/2020 12:30

Don’t let the stomach ache throw you! This was both my kids main symptom, older one had it much worse. Sharp cramps that had her on the floor in tears for several days, she had a very low grade fever and runny nose but that was it. Same thing for my other DD only she got a cough with hers. Both of them the main issue was stomach pains.
I’ve heard that one of the new strains that’s infecting kids more hits the stomach harder than the respiratory tract. Definitely get them tested if you’re worried.

Good luck x

Ladydowntheroad · 26/12/2020 12:31

Ps. They both tested positive

FiggyPuddingFiend · 26/12/2020 12:34

I'm an adult and had stomach pain and headache for a couple of days before developing a bit of a cough and so being tested. I tested positive and then lost my smell. I never got a fever.

Colycola · 26/12/2020 13:07

She has had the test. She came downstairs with a huge puffa coat on with the hood up shivering like crazy but temperature at 39.8.

She is also very snotty. She is in her room now with lots of drinks. I’ve only given her paracetomal.

DP had an upset stomach when he had it.

Pinkbubbles12 · 27/12/2020 11:09

My 14 year old had absolutely no symptoms whats so ever, her school literally came down with 4 or 5 students a day with it, i tested her privately to make sure she was ok, and she was positive, we were all shocked. I thought a false positive so a week later tested her again and still positive. She is absolutely fine. Not sure if the fact since this all started i had all my kids taking immune boosting vitamins, no one else got it in our house and there is 7 of us.

Colycola · 28/12/2020 14:40

She tested positive. Got the result through late last night.

Tell her to rest a lot!

My Y11 DC had it about 10 weeks ago and is still feeling the fatigue from it.
