How long does the dreadful headache last?

I’ve had a headache since Saturday which has become much worse. I’m on the second day of the pain being really awful. Painkillers aren’t touching it. I thought it could be a migraine but I’m also waiting for Covid test results.

Poor you. At least 5 or 6 days I had the terrible terrible headache. I honestly thought that my eyeballs were going to burst and pain killers had no effect. I hope yours goes much sooner OP.

Whatiswrongwithmykid · 24/12/2020 18:01

Can I ask what other symptoms you had?
I’ve got nausea, chills, very slight sore throat and can barely stay awake. I’ve two young children so really need to pull it together tomorrow.

You poor thing - is there anyway you could postpone Christmas until you are feeling a bit better? I’ve had to do that in the past with young children when I was working hospital shifts. Really really hope you feel better soon.

Whatiswrongwithmykid · 24/12/2020 18:10

No unfortunately not as they are aware that Santa comes tonight.

Your symptoms sound really similar to mine - not at all what they describe as 'classic'. I am sorry to say that I went on to develop breathlessness and a bad pain in one lung. It took me a while but I am hale and hearty now.

starrynight19 · 24/12/2020 18:27

Rubbish timing op. The headache for me lasted about three or four days and extreme lethargy. Luckily I just slept for most of the first week. Also had sore throat , nausea and diahorrea and head cold. Didn’t get a bad chest / cough / back pain until second week. Just try and rest as much as you can. Maybe do the big dinner etc next week for New Years instead.

Porcupineintherough · 24/12/2020 18:28

Flowers so sorry OP

If it is COVID then the headache should subside within 5-6 days (possibly sooner). Also, of its COVID then it's really important that you rest. So yes, do presents with the kids but please dont run yourself ragged trying to make it "Christmas as normal" tomorrow or you could really make yourself much worse.

Whatiswrongwithmykid · 24/12/2020 18:36

I’ve started vomiting now so it’s really not going to be possible for it to be Christmas as usual. Luckily my husband seems fine so can hold the fort ( for now!!)

Really sorry. Get yourself to bed, keep drinking so you dont get dehydrated (that will make everything worse) and rest. Keep an eye on your breathing and just accept it'll be Christmas in pajamas this year. You should be feeling a lot better within 14 days but it is quite common for it to take that long, even for a "mild" case.

H1978 · 24/12/2020 19:59

Headache was by far the worse symptom for me, lasted about 5 days non stop despite taking painkillers religiously.

Puddlelane123 · 24/12/2020 20:14

Really hope you feel better soon OP, and sorry to hear you are now vomming. Please keep a close eye on your symptoms and in the absence of a positive covid swab I would make sure you stay alert to other things it could be if you start deteriorating or do not improve. I always worry that things like meningitis might get missed whilst we are all (naturally) putting symptoms down to Corona virus.

UncomfortableSilence · 24/12/2020 20:23

Agree with Puddle to be mindful of other things while you wait for your test.

My headache and severe body aches lasted 4 days kindly replaced by nausea, diarrhoea, chills, mild cough and very blocked head and sinuses.

I'm on day 9, the presents will go down and then an early night and that will probably be it for tomorrow, there's no way I could do a roast etc and DH has it too so he can't step in. My DDs are of an age they understand and we'll do the full day another time.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Whatiswrongwithmykid · 24/12/2020 22:35

Thanks all. I’d be very surprised if it’s not Covid. It’s been rife at my kids school and so many people we know have had it in the past two weeks. It was inevitable really.

Hope you feel on the mend soon. Not Covid, but standard flu, I was poorly when DS was 6 all of Xmas and my husband was brilliant with the Xmas stuff. I was in bed delirious for a week. Missed the lot.

MrsBennetsnerves · 25/12/2020 01:39

I had a terrible headache for 4 days, along with a fever and a few other symptoms. Once they stopped I had nausea and vomiting, thankfully for one day only. After that tight chest, slight cough etc.

Foghead · 25/12/2020 01:45

I had it for 4 days and to be honest, I just took more paracetamols. Obviously I’m not advising that but I just did what I had to do.

Aquamarine1029 · 25/12/2020 01:47

Mine lasted 7 horrific days. Honestly felt like a sword through my head. Two months later I am still having random episodes of it that last 2 or 3 days. Along with the headache is the crushing exhaustion. I'm fucking sick of it.

Whatiswrongwithmykid · 25/12/2020 12:39

So sorry to hear that so many of you have been so ill. I’ve woken up feeling so much better today, though I am dosed up on lemsip cold and flu tablets.
My headache is bearable and the nausea has mostly subsided. I’m not back to normal by any stretch but I’ve managed to stay out of bed.
