Having to take my 2 daughters for a test this morning, as they have new coughs.
If it comes back positive will we have to isolate them in their bedrooms? Even though up to now we've all been in each other's space? We all share a bathroom, they are 6 and 7.

If you can perhaps get your teens to distance themselves a little? It’s hard either way but teens tend to like their own personal space more than the younger ones.

In any normal circumstances I wouldn't be worrying that if I caught something I have the potential to be seriously ill or even die.

Would you make your kids isolate in their room for 2 weeks if they had flu? Or would you be giving them cuddles and taking them hot chocolate and helping them feel better? People can and do die from flu, including young people and children.

Unless there's a huge drip feed that you're all super vulnerable, you're really overreacting.

DH tested positive Tuesday (GP not yet vaccinated), and barring me sleeping in the spare room he has not isolated. I am vaccinated as a frontline HCP but obviously have not achieved full protection yet. DS2 has developed very mild symptoms and will be tested tomorrow. We have not isolated from him. We are all in isolation until NYE.

No you cant and shouldn't do that, it's not ok for your children's mental health. You should isolate as a household for 10 days unless this places you in extreme financial difficulty.

Masks when in communal areas. Wipe down door handles, bathroom etc. It's possible not to catch it - my friends daughter was positive and they got tested after 14 days and didn't get it by doing the above

@thetoughhaveleft

Honestly OP, just pause a minute, imagine it's not a pandemic, and re read your post. Do you think shutting young children in their rooms is the right choice? If my six year old has a positive test, she'll be on the sofa cuddling me and being looked after, just as she has been for every other illness.

Would you be able to really isolate 6 and 7 year olds? I mean... mine are same age and I would never do anything cruel as that, it’s madness. We would isolate like a family obviously, there’s no other way with small children like this.
