Does anyone else live in West Yorks and shocked by the drop in cases? We’re right at the bottom of the ‘infection table’ now, when just a few weeks ago we were almost at the top...still in tier 3 here though..

I'm not sure which data set you're using, but have you really dropped much?

Just wondering if it's more a case that other places are rising more rapidly

Thegirlhasnoname · 24/12/2020 07:08

I’m in West Yorkshire and not too shocked at the drop in cases. I’m lucky that I still don’t know anybody personally who has tested positive and only know of two instances where somebody has needed to self-isolate (one was 2 year old DD nursery bubble popping and the other was my community midwife). Pleasantly surprised the figures are reflecting what I’m seeing in my area

...still doubtful we will ever see tier 2 though

lovelemoncurd · 24/12/2020 07:08

The data I looked at yesterday showed a rise! Which data are you looking at.

LegoPandemic · 24/12/2020 07:09

Unfortunately my Zoe app shows it’s rising again. We were doing really well until the past week or so.

Gruffaloandmouse · 24/12/2020 07:10

@RoseAndRose possibly, but I read an article just now that says we have on of the places with almost non existent covid now. Bizarre.
It’s definitely come down a lot here , compared to a couple of weeks ago that is. Maybe it’s because other places are much higher. But it’s a big shift in the numbers where I am anyway.

Gruffaloandmouse · 24/12/2020 07:11

@lovelemoncurd I was using the BBC track your area stats. Ours shows a fairly consistent drop. But maybe I’m being premature in my positivity and it’ll be going up again soon, I really hope not.

lovelemoncurd · 24/12/2020 07:12

I've just checked my area of Leeds and infection rates have increased 17%.

Articles are always going to be out of date compared to daily data!

Gruffaloandmouse · 24/12/2020 07:13

Ah 💩 that’s not good news. My area is still down but I guess we’ll be rising again soon if that’s the case.
I spoke too soon!

I live in one of the places with numbers too low to count. It’s been like that throughout. It’s like living on another planet. I know one person who had it way back in March, who picked it up from her DP in London and one who had it a few weeks ago and one who caught it while in hospital for a planned surgery in October. That’s it.

JacobReesMogadishu · 24/12/2020 07:15

I’m not in Yorkshire but where I am I’ve noticed almost a wave like pattern to the infection rate. It increases and looks awful, then drops for a bit and just as you’re thinking how good it is goes back up again.

I'm West Yorks tier 3 and our area and the surrounding areas have gone white on the map! We were purple for ages.

There has been a fall, it's not just that others are higher. Leeds overall has been fairly flat for a while but there's been a very slight rise over the last week. However, we've all seen how quickly things can change!

SantasBritchesSpelleas · 24/12/2020 07:23

Yes, I know what you mean. The national map is almost an inversion of what it was during November. Where I am, cases are well below the national average. We have been in a high tier all along, though - many of the places where cases are now high were in tier 2 until fairly recently.

MoirasRoses · 24/12/2020 07:26

I’m in West Yorkshire - I’ve just had covid. Sorry for contributing to the rise on that graph 😂 It’s fallen hugely, we were at 410 per 100,000 & now down 160ish. But still fairly high & sadly rising again..

Sunflowergirl1 · 24/12/2020 07:31

Yes it did lower. The huge increase from Sept was the students. The university and accommodation areas around were virtually glowing white with Re are large house parties going on a d it basically ripped through them a,though as usual few symptoms. From then on it started to spread out such is the pattern.

Basically our risk now is the new more infectious variant and particularly if the students return in January. Most of them don't need to as nearly all are being taught in-line except for stuff like engineering and medical degrees and nursing.

Sunflowergirl1 · 24/12/2020 07:32

Sorry...I was referring specifically to leeds

SantasBritchesSpelleas · 24/12/2020 07:38

Yes. It's sadly inevitable that this will take a hold sooner or later. It's almost certainly here already.

Frouby · 24/12/2020 07:44

I'm south Yorkshire and we were steadily falling under tier 3 but it's creeping back up again, I reckon another 2 weeks with the Christmas mixing and we will all be tier 4. I think tier 3s that have been in a while look loads better compared to the southern areas who were tier 2.

LovingLen · 24/12/2020 07:51

It's strange though with the numbers and how we adapt, I live in Northants and our small region is around 150, DS lives in Leeds and it's about the same and we are both relatively low now but only a few months ago when Leicester had about 150 it was seen as really high and bad. How it has changed

Mumof3andlovingit · 24/12/2020 07:52

In West Yorkshire too and I know too many people that have had covid. I know we were the worst area in England for absolutely ages but read in our local paper that infection rates haven’t increased as much in last week or so.
Despite being in tier 3 I know of so many families not following the rules including one couple who have travelled to a tier 2 area to spend holiday with their family! Their excuse is their kids mix in school so what’s the point of having tiers. Our schools in our area do have a high rate of cases though.
Don’t think the drop in infections will last for long unfortunately

I'm also in South Yorkshire, and our local town had well over 500 cases per 100k at one point. We went down to 136, but now it's climbing and is 180 per 100k.
Bubblemonkey · 24/12/2020 14:44

I’m in Leeds & was slightly miffed that we didn’t go down to tier 2 when the council were pushing for it.

I was also, although now I’m relieved as hopefully staying in tier 3 means going higher is less likely.

The only thing I really miss being in tier 3 is fitness classes as I’m useless doing stuff on my own. But at least the kids can go to their classes which makes a huge difference, they don’t do well without their sports clubs.

Jenibluebell · 24/12/2020 17:01

I'm in west Yorkshire, calderdale.
My son who is 10 tested positive last Saturday :( :( with no symptoms at all apart from a slight cough which he hasn't had since. ive had minor symptoms so tested today, we have to isolate until 30th. Its been a rubbish week. :'(
