When to isolate

Not for me but a friend
If you saw someone on Saturday in close contact and they tested positive today would/should you self isolate?
The positive person has no symptoms.
I say yes based on the fact the person has no idea if they had it on Saturday but test and trace is 48 hours before a positive test so technically it's no.

I would isolate yes

DecemberStar · 23/12/2020 23:11

Shouldn't be necessary, that's four days ago.

firecracker69 · 23/12/2020 23:21

Yes. That was my situation exactly (same days too) I had no symptoms for 12 days then tested positive.

Tricky one. Officially I think the answer is no. But from an infection control point of view it should be yes if she’s a truly asymptomatic and not a presymptomatic case.

I’d she develops symptoms in the next couple of days, then the Saturday contact is not a risk.

Porcupineintherough · 24/12/2020 00:54

Probably I wouldnt. But I wouldnt go visiting my granny (or anyone else) either for a couple of weeks.

Yes definitely, Same time line happened to me. Just tested positive for Covid

lurker101 · 24/12/2020 01:33

It’s 48 hours before the specimen date is it not? If the contact tested and received a positive result on Wednesday, and met your friend on previous Saturday, that would be outside the 48hr guidance, however, if they received their result today, for a test taken anytime between Saturday and Monday then they would be counted as a close contact
