Support bubble across tiers

I'm part of a (legal) support bubble that crosses tiers - I'm in Tier 3, and my support household will be in Tier 4 from boxing day. As I'm freely mixing with people living in Tier 4, does this mean that I should be acting as if I am as well? I go to very few places and see very few people anyway, but I'm wondering if I should now limit interactions with others even further. No guidance on this that I can see online - what are others doing?

If you travel to a tier 4 from a tier 2 or 3 then you need to isolate for ten days on your return.

I am not sure about the other way but it’s very confusing if you have a support bubble across tiers (which is still allowed) that you see more regularly than every 10 days as you’d be permanently isolating.

Candleinthewindow · 23/12/2020 21:04

Do you have a link for that please?

How on earth does that work with working in a Tier 4 area but living in Tier 3, then? Outing myself here but DH works in Tier 4 (and yes, we're still eligible for a support bubble as we have DC under 1). Does that mean he has to permanently isolate? These guidelines are so frustrating - they don't seem to have thought any of this through.

@Carrotcakey I assume you're referring to this guidance? www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.com/news/amp/uk-england-55400339

We're not living in an area listed, so technically don't have to do that, and I assumed that this was just if coming from London or the SE in Tier 4 before Christmas.

Starting to think though that we should act like we're in Tier 4 - ie stay at home and not see anyone other than our support bubble, given they're in that area and DH works in it, too.

I can only find it on BBC www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/uk-england-55400339 but I have seen it elsewhere, sorry I can’t find it.

My Mum is my support bubble but lives 100m away so we don’t see much of her. She is absolutely coming for Xmas though but I think she now needs to isolate for ten days on her return. That isn’t an issue for her but it’s not practical for many people if they are in regular contact.

It’s all so confusing!

Carrotcakey · 23/12/2020 21:16

Cross post. I really don’t know. I think yes, if you’re in regular contact with your bubble then you just act like you’re in tier 4.
But there seems to be so much don’t cross tiers unless absolutely necessary stuff coming out. I’m feeling guilty about the whole thing! Not everyone is lucky enough to have local family.

LovingLen · 23/12/2020 21:20

So what happens if you work in tier 4 area and live in tier 2 or 3 or is work an exception

Nochangeplease · 23/12/2020 21:26

You don’t have to isolate. You can see your support bubble and live under your tier 3 rules but if you can stick to tier 4 rules that would be safer I suppose.

Candleinthewindow · 23/12/2020 21:26

@Carrotcakey I know - it's so hard to do the right thing. Our family is not local at all and our bubble is about ten minutes away into the next county so we're not going far (and we actually have to cross another county to get to them - ridiculous but there you are).

We were pretty sure we'd have to act as if we were in Tier 4 so it's not a surprise and we feel that it's wrong not to do it, but it's not great that there's no guidance for it. Again.

Isolate? I'm pretty sure you don't have to

Carrotcakey · 23/12/2020 21:37

I can only find BBC and tabloids saying about isolating if returning from
Tier 4. Nowhere authoritative!

And I’m just adding to the speculation on this post! Sorry. Time to get off Mumsnet and stop googling COVID stuff!

LovingLen · 23/12/2020 21:40

I think it was something that was just announced on the back of those people leaving London which hasn't been actually thought out about how it would affect people in support bubbles or working across tiers
