I’m in the South. So she is driving to the NE (T3) tomorrow and staying with family for a couple of days. I know it’s her business but it’s MY business when she’s blatantly going against the guidelines/rules. I am so cross with her.

Shocking.
Not a person wanting to see their own family at Xmas for two days?!
Perhaps she’s just testing her eyesight....

Some people break the rules. We can't control what other people do. So no point getting annoyed.

It's really NOT.

Don't worry about it, it's up to her. My neighbours are mixing 5 households already. It's not even Christmas day yet and we are in a tier 4 lockdown. It's happening all over, but it's natural to want to see your family at Christmas so I get that. Plus I like my neighbour and am grateful we haven't got a complete arse next door. The only thing that slightly irks me is that she has a right of way through and past my back door so lots of people traipsing by. I think it will only be for a short while as some of the family have come over from Liverpool and they always get bored really quickly here.

I used to get annoyed with people breaking the rules. I’ve got to the point I don’t really care what others do. We haven’t really been able to see our families in several months, I don’t blame people for breaking the rules. The police haven’t got the time or resources to check up on everyone either.

It's all so hard at the moment. I hate the way the virus divides us. I too have friends who are acting in ways which I find extremely selfish but I'm sure they find me ridiculously over cautious.

I think the only thing is to try and take a step back and reserve judgement. Could they be visiting someone who is terminally ill/unlikely to see another Christmas? How long has it been since they last saw family? Had they got any other options for Christmas Day?

This virus has taken enough without ruining the relationships we do have left. It's okay to be annoyed, it's justifiable but don't let it eat you up.

I won’t lose sleep over it but she had cancelled going last weekend when the Xmas rules changed. But now obviously changed her mind. I just won’t see her for 10 days when she comes back!

don't see her at all if you really disapprove.
you don't share fundamental values, how deep could the friendship be anyway.
see it as a learning experience.
also for your own protection, as if this is her attitude, she is likely to go on ignoring rules to suit herself. she is a covid risk.
