Masks and Glasses

Do you think wearing glasses and a mask gives additional protection from COVID. I seem to remember a report from the 1st strain where China reported only 6% of those who contracted COVID wore glasses which in a population that wears a lot of glasses seems very low. I have googled and cant find anything but as I am about to pop to the supermarket to collect my grocery click and collect order t would give me a little more reassurance to think despite my glasses steaming up it may give a little bit extra protection.

I imagine glasses possibly do give some extra protection , hopefully someone knowledgeable will be along soon to advise us .

Found this study, so it looks like it does help, but it means I wont have a clue what I am doing as they steam up:)

Conclusions and Relevance In this cohort study of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in Suizhou, China, the proportion of inpatients with COVID-19 who wore glasses for extended daily periods (>8 h/d) was smaller than that in the general population, suggesting that daily wearers of eyeglasses may be less susceptible to COVID-19

I think it's one of those behaviour things. When I've got my glasses on, I don't touch my eyes very often. Eyes are one place that virus can enter the body (nose and mouth being others)

My optician sells reusable antifog wipes which are a a noticeable improvement...

Fellow glasses wearer. I know at work we have for years been expected to wear either glasses or a visor when treating patients, in addition to a mask, to minimise virus ingress through the eyes. So it makes sense that they would offer protection against covid. Do I know of any evidence to support that for this virus? No. But it would be entirely reasonable given what we know of how viruses spread.
