Asymptomatic positive!

First thread in this dreaded topic subject!

Husband and I got a test on Monday. Cheekily booked one as a precaution. I know, I feel awful.

But:

His has come back positive and I am negative! He is completely asymptomatic.

Two little children at hole so now we're isolating, obviously.

My question is: wtf? How can this be?! And should I lock this poor man away over Christmas. We have two little children in a tiny house with a tiny garden and we do 50/50 child and house life. What would you do? I don't really know what I'm asking. Terrified, guilty and... terrified.

Ignoring the fact you had the test without symptoms I’m sorry your husband had a positive test. It’s great you know so you can minimise spread though.
He does now need to isolate as much as is possible. Certainly he and you can’t leave the house under any circumstances fir 10 days from the test.
Hope you both remain symptom free.

Do your dc go to school? I’d get them tested too. Our ds bought it home from his primary class and none of the infected children have symptoms. It’s ripped through our house in the last week

We've had a lot of cases in our school and pretty much nobody had any of the 3 main symptoms! Most had either no symptoms or a headache, a few had a runny nose. And all the time they are potentially infecting others without being aware of it

I have just had the children tested and somehow in the furious blur of tears I inadvertently booked one myself too and only found out at the drive through when looking at the bar codes, so all three of us have just been tested. Ffs.

Poor totally fine husband is hiding in the spare room. I have told everyone we need to tell.

And then I had another fretful cry at the guilt!

2 of the children in my (primary school) class tested positive and were both asymptomatic. My theory is that it’s the new strain.

I really do think that this has crept up on many many people. Our school hasn’t had a single case all term and then just like that it’s spreading like wildfire. I dread to think how far and wide this will spread now. Luckily our symptoms so far seem milk. Me and ds tested positive last Thursday, dh last Friday and I’ve had my other dc tested again this week, still waiting for those results. My only symptom was a headache that lasted a few hours. Since then I’ve felt run down but tbh who doesn’t at this time of year? My taste and smell only left me yesterday, so if I’d waited til today to get a test god knows how many people I’d have infected just going about my business. We’ve not broken any rules, been as safe as we can be, and we still have it. Please don’t cry, the chances are it’ll be mild. Yes it’s not the Christmas you’d planned but it isn’t for anyone. I could weep for the food we have though, for the first time ever I bought meat in advance from our lovely little farm shop, it’s being delivered today and none of us will be able to taste it Xmas Sad

I'm sorry you're going through it too!

Thank you for your kind words, and everyone else on this thread!

Oof, I feel for you; but this is why you tested ultimately isn’t it? Take some comfort from that.

At least you have Christmas Day and presents to help break up the monotony for the dc.

I would say to be careful about your DH’s isolation. It’s hard too tell whether he’s truly asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic. The thinking is people are at their most infectious a couple of days before they show symptoms.

Fingers crossed you all come through unscathed if bored Flowers

beebirdapple · 31/12/2020 20:52

Just coming back to say: husband never developed symptoms, they lost the children's tests so we had to get tested again! As of yesterday me and the children were negative and done with isolating.

Off for a gallivant outside tomorrow!

How odd. Have to believe his test was correct and if so then that is utterly terrifying that completely normal people can be walking around with IT. Whether they're passing it on at a high rate is a different matter, I guess!

Gulp.

He may not have had it. With nearly half a million tests a day quite a large number will be false positives, which are more likely for people with no symptoms.

But you can't be sure, so you were right to isolate for 10 days, regardless of your own negative test.

You might be interested in the story of the Royal Caribbean cruise that was aborted after one passenger had a positive test. It returned to port, everyone was disembarked and the passenger then had subsequent negative tests.

That’s great news @beebirdapple - enjoy your gallivant tomorrow! Thanks for updating Cake
