Testing positive again

I had a positive COVID test result on 4th December. As a result I isolated as instructed and luckily only had mild symptoms.

During this time I was invited to take part in the Principle trial which involved me taking antibiotics. They also wanted me to do a swab test after my isolation period which I duly did and posted back on 14th December. I've now had an email and text from track and trace saying I've tested positive and need to isolate etc ...

I've called the trial helpline who were about as helpful as a chocolate teapot. Surely I don't need to isolate again do I?? I would never have taken part in the trial if this was the case. I thought it wasn't that unusual to have a second positive result after the isolation period but doesn't necessarily mean you're still infectious.

Any advice appreciated thankyou!

I'm worried about this also as I am a teacher so will be tested when I return to school after xmas.

Can you talk to your GP?

Ivytheterrible79 · 23/12/2020 09:33

Or call the 119 helpline maybe

Thanks that's a good idea I'll try and speak to 119 I think. I'm just concerned they go by the book and will say I have to do as track and trace say without considering the circumstances .

Why have you only just had a result from something you posted on 14th Dec? We posted on 18th and got results yesterday which was quite a long time.

You are supposed to reisolate - a friend was in this position yesterday and says she's checked and has to reisolate even though it must be related to her last case.

Wouldn't they count your days from the date of test so you would almost be out of isolation anyway.

Melonlover80 · 23/12/2020 09:36

What did the helpline actually say?

Cupcakegirl13 · 23/12/2020 09:36

I’m sure I read you will bring back a positive test for you to 3 months after having it ?

Good point about isolation being from the date of test and no idea why it's taken so long. I assumed there might be a backlog due to the current rate of infection (I'm in the south east).

I'll call 119 and report back once I have got a definitive answer. Could be a while!

We have the same here, test on day one abs a further test on day 13. If the last t at is still positive there’s a further 14 day isolation period.

People who refuse tests have an automatic 21 day isolation.

Not good near Christmas

I've heard many times you can test positive for 3 months and a few reports of even longer.

That's why those poor young lads got stuck in Italian hotel quarantine for months.
They were ill with covid and then after isolating kept testing positive. They weren't allowed to travel without 2 negative tests in a row.

I agree with you. You've had it and isolated and so now you are out of isolation.
