To those who thought they’d already had it...

If you thought you’d already had coronavirus before the first lockdown at the end of March have you had it again?

Myself and youngest DC had the similar symptoms in early Nov. My two teens have been exposed on a few occasions (one so much so that I thought coming down with it was inevitable) - we still haven’t had it.

Just wondering if people who thought they’d had it have actually had it now.

I know you can get it more than once, but do any of you appear to have some level of immunity?

I think I had it early March, high temp (40.2) loss of smell/taste, fatigue, nausea, loss of appetite. No cough. Was ill for about 10 days, dh had fatigue for a few days, MIL had a bad cough/fatigue. Kids didn’t have anything. Found out later that at that time it was circulating in our local area after a friend’s husband returned from a meeting in Austria and tested positive.

Not been ill again since then with any Covid symptoms, few classes at school have been locked down, but not many cases in this area (SW London). Lots were ill with something early March same as us, no testing then though so no way of knowing. MIL has returned to her home country, she’s not been ill again with coronavirus symptoms despite lots of friends and family testing positive.

Same as you OP. Picked "something" up in October 2019, had pleurisy for a week or so, then coughed, hacked and choked, literally on the floor at times, all through November. I wasn't completely well until January.

I've continued to work outside the home throughout. No more covid.

Porcupineintherough · 23/12/2020 08:34

Just caught it for the second time Sad Ditto ds1. We first had it at the end of March.

EggysMom · 23/12/2020 08:38

We believe we had it at the end of February (list of symptoms matches). None of us have had it since - but then again, we haven't exactly been mixing in the usual circles: I'm WFH, DS is at a specialist school with small class sizes, his normal weekend activity sessions stopped ... So it may just be that we haven't been re-exposed.

fromthesamecloth · 23/12/2020 08:40

Yes I think DD had it last year. She had ‘pneumonia’ December 2019 and was the most ill I’ve ever seen her in my life, couldn’t breathe for weeks and had the worst dry cough. The whole way through the pandemic she’s worked in a customer-facing role, went to pubs and restaurants lots over summer, been a uni student, loads of her friends have had it etc ... and she just hasn’t caught it. Been tested a few times too.

However I have heard of a few people like @porcupineintherough who have now had it twice. Get well soon Flowers

FusionChefGeoff · 23/12/2020 08:51

I thought I had it in Feb but got a test for work which also showed antibodies and doc told me I didn't have any so unlikely I'd had it.

Unless you had a positive test, pretty unlikely you had it so early

There weren't any tests early on - even those terribly ill in hospital couldn't get tested. The antibodies are thought to last only a short time after infection so that test is of limited value for determining prior infection (i.e. if you test positive for antibodies you had covid, but if you don't test positive you could still have had covid and have t cell immunity - as I understand it).
SufferingFromLongLockdown · 23/12/2020 09:06

I thought I had it over Christmas last year, lasting about 5 weeks. I started with a show throat, then cough, then extreme fatigue and not being able to think and also kidney pain.
Neither me nor the group of friends I was seeing frequently on the run up to Christmas last year have had it this year. None of us have shielded.

LloydBC · 23/12/2020 09:06

Almost certain I had it in March. Felt awful, cough, temperature - felt like I’d been hit by a bus. Tired for weeks afterwards. I never usually get sick so this was really unusual for me.

Fast forward to December, just tested positive last week. Symptoms much milder and now loss of smell and taste which is by far the worst part.

Tangerines2021 · 23/12/2020 09:09

Yes I (think) I had it for around 6 weeks in March/April - extreme fatigue, headache, breathlessness, muscle aches, racing heart, mild temp, no cough. Thought I was headed for long covid but got better after 6 weeks, thank goodness.

Haven't had it again this time (yet), but know others who have had it twice.

Athinginitself · 23/12/2020 09:16

Yeah had it in march but untested. Was really unwell, and would have been admitted if it was now as oxygen was low. Was in bed for weeks and off work for nearly 3 months, still have some longer term symptoms now-chest pain, breathlessness, fatigue but is improving gradually. Have had to have a couple of tests since but no positives.

Kitcat122 · 23/12/2020 09:24

I had it in March, had all the symptoms including loss of smell and taste which was not on the list then. Still have pain and shortness of breath now although slowly improving.

MrsBennetsnerves · 23/12/2020 09:44

I believe I had it in March but tested positive in May when I started getting some of the symptoms back. They were milder but I developed long covid. It seems unlikely that I was reinfected in 8 weeks so maybe I was still shedding old virus. I thought I had more or less recovered completely for some time, but have some symptoms again so am waiting for home test results. DH had recent contact with someone infected but is asymptomatic. He was also like that the first time I was ill.

MrsBennetsnerves · 23/12/2020 09:46

After reading some of the responses here p I can't rule out a long covid relapse but I'll find out soon from the test. I should be a pro at taking swab tests by now, at least.

HikeForward · 23/12/2020 10:07

Yes, but the first time it was mild, I missed the time-frame for testing and only found out I’d had it from an antigen test.

This time I have classic symptoms, fever, loss of taste and smell, difficulty breathing, cough. Tested positive immediately. Had to have steroids etc in hospital at the worst point. Still feel exhausted.

PopThatBootyForStNick · 23/12/2020 10:55

I think I had it in January, I was in bed for 3 days with sever fatigue, hot sweats and a terrible cough that lasted for several weeks after. At the time I put it down to flu but think it was covid as I typically don't suffer from flu or even the common cold

ED47 · 23/12/2020 10:59

DP had a positive test in August. We had been in close contact. I isolated and didn't get any typical covid symptoms (and therefore didn't get a test) but I was headachy and generally lethargic for a few days.

I've been in contact several times since with confirmed cases (teacher) but haven't developed any symptoms. I'm hoping I had a 'mild' case in August and now have some immunity.

BlackeyedSusan · 23/12/2020 11:31

had a cough, breathlessness and fatigue in March. not been right since. not sure my taste has been right since either.
ds had a temperature just before lockdown and probably went off food and headaces and tired but those are normal response to illness.

who knows. sil seemed to have it but was tested for antibodies and did not have any... so

Mousehole10 · 23/12/2020 11:35

@Porcupineintherough

Was it confirmed by a test both times?
BaublesToIt · 23/12/2020 11:44

I’m pretty sure I had it in early Feb. Came down with something very suddenly (I’m never ill) and couldn’t get off the sofa for 5 days. Temp 104 at one point and very painful shivers. Horrendous cough lasted for 3 months in total but no loss of taste or smell. DH came down with something similar but much less severe the week after and DC had had what I thought was bad colds before.

In mid November, DH and all 4 DC all tested positive, after one of the DC had contact with a positive case outside the household. Their symptoms were very minor, and 2 DC had no symptoms all.

I tested negative several times despite sleeping with DH and DS2 coughing in my face repeatedly when I administered his test (!) so can only assume I still had antibodies 9 months later?

KylieKoKo · 23/12/2020 12:24

I had a cough, breathlessnes, fever, fatigue and burning lungs in march. A friend hugged me a week or so later when I was better and then developed all the above symptoms plus a lost of taste and a positive antibody test. Since then I've barely had a sniffle due to all this hand washing, despite being around DSDs and their school germs.

dontdisturbmenow · 23/12/2020 12:36

I was convinced I had it in April as was my GP from my symptoms. Burning lungs, back pain breathlessness exactly as described by those confirmed. But got an antibody test in June that came back negative.

Got the same symptoms again now although milder, so who knows!

Porcupineintherough · 23/12/2020 12:41

@Mousehole10 yes and no. No testing was available in March but I had antibodies detected at the COVID recovery clinic at the end of July (gone by September). And this time, yes I tested positive on Sunday.

U8myufo · 23/12/2020 12:42

I'm certain I had it end Jan / early Feb. No testing available then. I worked in a kennels coming into contact with people collecting pets after they had been on holiday. I was still feeling rough in March but haven't had it since.
