Start of cold, or covid?

MummaBear4321 · 23/12/2020 04:55

For the last 2 days DD has had a runny nose (she is 2). Now I am developing what feels like the start of a cold. I have that niggly feeling at the back of my nose that you get before a cold. I have nowhere to go today anyway so will stay at home and see how it develops, but I am due to have PIL for christmas day and am a little worried. Should I be? Did anyones covid start with the feeling of a cold in the back of your nose?

Yes, she could have brought it home from nursery. That is more likely imo due to length of contact with others.

inquietant · 23/12/2020 06:46

Monday at Aldi is a bit fast.

inquietant · 23/12/2020 06:47

Hmm, although the new strain is faster so I need to revise the timescales in my head, don't I? Sad

ilovethecold · 23/12/2020 06:48

I doubt you will get your results back before Christmas ?

My 2 year old had a covid test last weekend runny nose , his cough starting getting continuous and he had a temp at 38 , it came back negative and just had a nasty cold - his test took 2 and a half days to come back
Good luck 🤞🏽

I thought it is just more easily transmitted rather than faster acting? Although I have been minimising my exposure to the news these days so I could be wrong.

I'm not sure now, I read faster but maybe that just means 'to more people' rather than 'in a shorter time'. I've read so much but I still feel I don't know enough.

Velvian · 23/12/2020 06:53

The only reason that the Covid symptoms haven't been expanded is due to not having suffient tests kits or facilities and a woeful track and trace system, I have long suspected .

Either test or don't see PIL, or both. If high school kids were over 2,000 per 100,000, primary around 2,000 per 100,000 last week, I imagine nursery children are not that far behind.

MummaBear4321 · 23/12/2020 06:54

@ilovethecold I have been worrying about the same thing. It says a 48 hour turnaround, and my area is pretty calm at the minute infection wise, and I have friends who were tested last week and they came back within 48 hours which would bring me to christmas morning, but its cutting it fine. I would obviously have to cancel christmas with the PIL if I dont get it back by christmas morning, which is going to kill my MIL (she isnt the most mentally tough woman .... general day to day disappointments like her yorkshires not being the right texture could end in tears) but not much I can do.

Those 3 symptoms on the website are the bare minimum. That's well known. Very many people have had covid without these symptoms, right from the beginning in March, including myself. The Chinese produced an initial list of 11 symptoms, researched across 54, 000 cases.

Do what's best for your family and say what you have to.

AgnesNaismith · 23/12/2020 06:55

The ZOE Oxford Uni app tells people to get a test for ANY symptom. There is no moral dilemma here, you’ve done the right thing OP.

Although you absolutely should self isolate until you get the results.

Dongdingdong · 23/12/2020 06:57

A runny nose isn’t usually a symptom of Covid, so I’m sure your daughter will be fine OP!

LastChristmas20 · 23/12/2020 07:23

Wishing you a negative test OP. I think you're right to be tested though.

SpnBaby1967 · 23/12/2020 07:39

@MummaBear4321 I started with a bit of a snotty nose on friday. Felt okay on saturday, but tired. Saturday night I slept almost 12 hours which is unheard of for me (that's literally double my usual amount). Started with a cold like feeling Sunday night, temp monday (not excessively high) with a sore throat. I tested monday & got a positive.

The thing is, I'm on my period and I always get a temp with it. I only tested because a temp is a listed symptom when actually the real symptom causing me issues is a sore throat. Had it just been the throat I'd have assumed a cold & carried on as normal (I've still been wfh this week).

MummaBear4321 · 23/12/2020 07:46

I am 90% sure I have a cold, which is making me feel like I am making a huge deal out of nothing. Honestly I am more scared about my MILs reaction than a positive test result. The shit is going to hit the fan when DH tells her.

OP posts:
TomasinaTiers · 23/12/2020 07:50

That’s odd, why be afraid of her reaction? What will she do?! Shock

AstridAv · 23/12/2020 07:54

I would lie and get a test. I tested positive without any main symptoms but went for a test because I felt off and my son was positive.

Mine was back with 24hrs as was my neighbours who was tested on Monday. Hopefully shouldn't take too long.

MummaBear4321 · 23/12/2020 07:55

@TomisinaTiers probably cry, then say I am being silly, and then probably suggest I am lying and I just dont want her to have the luxury of her grandkids on christmas day. She has a tendency to assume everything I do is to do with her and that people are purposely mean to her. When I went back to work she assumed I purposely chose to work the days that she had off so she couldnt see her grandkids. I am a teacher. I dont really have a choice what days I work.

She hasn't really followed any rules etc, although she doesnt work so she doesnt see many people or go many places. She doesnt look at the news. She just does what she wants.

islockdownoveryet · 23/12/2020 08:02

None of those are symptoms op so why would you get a test .
People have lied and got a test when they have had a 'runny nose ' and tested positive but doesn't mean the runny nose was a symptom.
People test positive without any symptoms.
My advise follow guidelines don't get a test unless you come down with a symptom.
Hopefully this mass testing will be up and running soon so we can all get tested .

MummaBear4321 · 23/12/2020 11:58

I had the test this morning. Just crossing my fingers that it comes back within the 48 hours so I can let my inlaws know one way or another before Christmas lunch.

OP posts:
AgnesNaismith · 24/12/2020 16:13

@MummaBear4321 how did you get on? Did the result come back in time?

MummaBear4321 · 24/12/2020 16:17

No result back yet. Nothing has developed. I just have a stuffy nose. I feel like an idiot because I cant really have the PIL over now that they know I am awaiting test results. I have ruined christmas for DH and his parents for a stuffy nose.

No you haven’t FlowersCakeCake you’ve been a responsible adult in a pandemic. Don’t give yourself a hard time.

yearinyearout · 25/12/2020 07:57

Did result come back Op? My dm has her result (negative) in 24hours, must have a fast turnaround here!

MummaBear4321 · 25/12/2020 08:05

No result back yet. It's been 47 hours. I am frantically refreshing my emails every few minutes. I didnt sleep much last night worrying about having to cancel dinner if there is no result. Not how I envisioned spending my first christmas morning with my DD.

My 3 y/o and OH only had cold symptoms and both tested positive for covid. Get tested.
