Hi everyone,

Today me and my partner have both tested positive for coronavirus. We have a 8 week old baby too. I am so worried. I had very severe lightheadedness, bad diarrhoea and lethargy for 2 days and my boyfriend become very breathless and now has a bad throat.

I am so upset we have done everything possible to be safe this whole year. Literally isolated the whole.time I have OCD and clean everything. I am so scared my baby could have it or catch it.

Please can you tell me some positive stories I am literally shaking with worry right now.

Thanks

You are both very likely to make a full recovery soon - how on earth do you think you both caught it?

CaptainCarp · 21/12/2020 23:42

The people I've spoken to who have had it are all OK now. The worst was very similar to flu & had 2 days in bed. Their wife just felt like they had a bad cold.

If you felt the way you do know pre-covid what would you have thought? Probably "eurgh I feel rough". Remember that for most that's all it gets to!

Me

Very mild illness, no worse than a common cold.

I have a rubbish immune system, I smoke, and was recovering from sepsis at the time of catching covid.

I'm absolutely fine.

The anxiety from having it was probably the worst thing for me (and contributed massively to the light headedness!)

You are both in a good place to make a full recovery, and your baby too. Keep talking to us here, lots of support available x

I've had it and am now recovering. Yes, it was awful. But totally manageable at home with rest and painkillers.

I did buy an O2 monitor as I was also very anxious as I had chest pain too. It was reassuring - my numbers never dipped below normal level despite the pain and feeling of tightness.

@2020out how long did your recovery take and chest pains to go away?

Sparrowcrane · 22/12/2020 00:13

The risk of complications is still very low, so you most likely will be fine. It took me over two weeks to recover but almost a month to be back to my normal energy/activity level but I'm probably quite a few years older that you are. My teen daughters on the other hand recovered in two-three days and hardly had any symptoms at all. I hope you recover quickly as it probably will be a challenging time for you both to look after a very small baby whilst not feeling well x

My husband (ECV) was really unwell for 5 weeks. I was unwell for 36 hours (no additional risk factors). 3 of my 4 dc had symptoms. 1 had a temperature for a day, 1 a cough for 4 days and a spiked temperature for an hour, 1 had a cough for 3 days. None were any more unwell than with any childhood virus. Even if your baby catches it they are likely to have minimal symptoms... and then the added protection of having already had it. Take care, and rest when you can. You’ll be fine.

I'm not there yet.

First symptoms were mild - cough and sore throat with some gastro issues. These were about 4 days. Then I had 4 days of headache, chest pain, cough, fatigue, chills, and fever. It's been 5 days since the worst of that subsided. I'm still tired, with milder chest pain and cough, but the fever has gone and the headache only comes back when I overdo things (talk too much mostly). So it's not amazing but I'm just glad to be past the worst of it. If I had to be in work today, I'd have struggled (teacher so very thankful for the two weeks off).

Here are a couple of helpful things you can do

Take vit d and zinc. If you can get zinc lozenges, let them dissolve slowly in your mouth and coat your throat. Your immune system uses zinc and vit d as tools to kill viruses. Take at least 5000 iui vit d, but not more than 8000. With zinc lozenges, follow the instructions on the packet

Gargle with listerine or alcohol containing mouthwash evey 3 hours

Get lots of sleep (difficult with a baby I know) and stay warm and hydrated.

If you can get an oximeter, (try boots or amazon) keep an eye on your oxygen levels. Below 94% give your doctor a call

You can fight the virus, your body is capable of seeing it off. Just help it to fight.

I had it for 3 days. Felt rough, basically went to bed for 3 days, drank fluids, ate nothing, was right as rain within a week (57 year old)

Whycantibetangy · 22/12/2020 00:26

We’ve just come out of isolation after dd14 tested positive. No symptoms other than a loss of taste for 2 days, no one else in the house had any symptoms. Dh got a test (negative) as was worried about his front line role and if he needed to warn his vulnerable clients.

It sounds like you have done everything right but sometimes bad luck happens. Try not to worry, take lots of fluids, rest up with a Netflix binge session or some nice Christmas movies, get friends to drop off food/wine/chocolate parcels and whatever you do...don’t go on a google search
