Had a test...

My head is spinning. I can't plan Xmas if I don't know if dd has Covid or not. If she does, we all have to self isolate for 10 days and we don't have enough food in for that long. And I'm scared. I'm scared of her getting it badly, of me getting it. I'm just scared. I'm scared of the schools going back too - I don't want the dc to go back.

And I'm phobic about sick and I don't want any of us to throw up with Covid.

Help!! Talk some sense into me

My DS had a test Wednesday morning, got the results back in 23.5 hours. Don’t know how much your location affects it.

oxydrive73 · 21/12/2020 18:58

Where are you? DS had a test 11:30 am Saturday, nothing back yet.

BarbarAnna · 21/12/2020 18:59

Take some deep breaths. Numbers are still very low per 100,000, even in the highest areas. We are T4 with a huge increase during December, and we have all come back negative after being asked to take tests as my eldest is in secondary. We did postal tests, sent Saturday lunchtime and back overnight. So very quick really.

Worst case scenario and you get a positive, there are loads of people helping others who are isolating. Lots of kind offers of help.

Good luck.

Sorry your second post hadn’t shown up until I posted. Is there anyone nearby who you could ask to go to the supermarket for you? If not, our local Facebook group is full of people falling over themselves offering food or supermarket trips, don’t be afraid to reach out for help. The likelihood is she’ll test negative, don’t panic.

It was 26 hours for us back in October. I’ve got a relative on hour 60 now which is slightly worrying. Although I also had a test in October time that just went missing so system wasn’t perfect.

HairyFloppins · 21/12/2020 19:05

DH’s went missing so he had another one after five days and that turned up within 24 hours.

Try not to panic about the Dc we have all just had it in this house and my two had it very mildly.

digthroughtheditches · 21/12/2020 19:05

3 days for me In Cheshire. Negative though so maybe I got put in the 'non urgent' pile to contact?

oxydrive73 · 21/12/2020 19:09

Mine has literally just come through!! Negative

Twistiesandshout · 21/12/2020 19:11

3 of us were tested sat. Mine is back but DD and DS not yet. very odd as were all together.

tenlittlecygnets · 21/12/2020 19:26

Thanks all. It's just come back - negative!

But now I'm worried -it was done 4/5 days after exposure to girl who had treated positive, and the nhs website says 5-7 days is better - dd has a sore throat and feels tired. How accurate is test?! Should we have another?!

Does she actually have any of the main covid symptoms? No, you don’t need another test. She keeps isolating until she’s done her ten days, if she develops a new cough, high temperature or lack of taste/smell then you get another test.

ShopoholicIn · 22/12/2020 07:27

I had a test on Sunday 8.30 am and got the result on Tuesday at 5 am.

FreeButtonBee · 22/12/2020 07:28

I did a postal test on Friday and nothing back yet. I do one weekly and normally get it back Sunday night so defo late

@tenlittlecygnets - calm down. People’s anxiety about COVID is getting out of control. It’s a mild illness for most people. Particularly children. We’ve just had it & it felt no worse than a bad cold. This is including a 9 month old & two healthy 33 year olds.

I also have a sickness phobia but none of us got any nausea or sickness. I understand health anxiety, I go into full panic mode at the thought of being sick but when I don’t feel sick (99.9% of the time), I’m able to see it’s completely irrational. While you remain symptom free, there’s no point wasting time worrying. How do you deal with your kids & the possibility of stomach bugs every year? Use those tactics to try think sensibly & not panic. It’s out of your control, that’s the ‘scary’ bit but you need to take a breath & regain control of your worries. There is a great self help programme called Cure Your Emetephobia & Thrive. I wouldn’t say it’s cured mine per say but it’s been an enormous help!
