Vaccine distribution

How do you know what priority Someone is for a vaccine. My mum is in her late 60s but has lots of health issues (not cancer or anything I think impacts on her immune system) but she has hydrocephalus she is waiting for a operation to drain, very high blood pressure, is very immobile and several other health conditions.

Should she call her GP to find out about vaccines or will they contact her?

They'll call or contact her

AIMD · 21/12/2020 17:55

@Ridcully82 thanks I wasn’t sure. They’re the type to make no fuss so won’t ask about it.

There is a vaccination calculator online you could check that might give a rough idea of when she will receive it.
But yes, she will be contacted when its her turn

ihatesandpits · 21/12/2020 18:07

SunInTheSkyYouKnowHowIFeel do you have a link to the calculator please! Smile

cologne4711 · 21/12/2020 18:12

It's here, I google "vaccine calculator uk" www.omnicalculator.com/health/vaccine-queue-uk

Group four( 70+/ or ECV),so my plan is wait till it's announced they're into group four, give it a couple of weeks, then a call to my practice for a time frame/make sure not accidentally dropped off list.hope it happens soon for her(and for us!)

AIMD · 21/12/2020 18:19

She has no one condition in the EVC but lots of other health conditions, learning disability and is very immobile and over weight.

It’s nice to have an idea about where she is in terms of vaccine priority.

Our local GPs have all issued social media pleas to people not to ring up asking for the vaccine as they are being inundated. The only exemption to that would be people like my 76 year old FIL who isn’t even registered with a GP 😣

Ah yea this is why I didn’t want to call without knowing if we needed to.

Thats handy thanks Smile
Looks like my dad should get it early next year but my mum is likely to be just after her first grandchild is due in April which she was hoping to be done by, hope there's no delays...

cptartapp · 21/12/2020 18:53

Please don't ring the GP. Many practices are not involved in giving this and will not be able to advise.

I’m not. That’s why I did the post. I didn’t want to call without some understanding of what the deal was with prioritisation for the vaccine. The link shared was useful to answer when my mum should expect to get one.

I used the calculator but would point out it is working on presumption of 1 million vaccines given each week.. We are two weeks in and they have given half a million.
It says I will get mine next week.. Am front line clinical staff.. But in my area we arw being organised by local council social and health care dept and they haven't even organised the clinics yet... No idea who is going to run them or where...
The over 80's our primary care networks are organising and again different bits of the county doing it differently.
I have done all the training and volunteered to do vaccination clinic for free... So far not heard anything back from pcn or council.. Who apparently arw saying they are short of vaccinators..
It is infuriating.. Why fgs did the government not call the army in and organise it centrally so every area ran the same?
