Should I let my child go to Scotland from Tier 4?

I live in Tier 4 with DD. She is due to go to Scotland to stay with her dad after Christmas. I know that there is an exemption for children travelling between their parents' homes but with Nicola Sturgeon becoming ever more of a zealot it wouldn't surprise me if that exemption was to be removed. I couldn't bear it if DD got stuck up there. Ex would make things as difficult for me as possible to get her back. We have no court order - primarily because he is a Disney dad and would use it to control me whilst preserving his own right to do whatever he wants.

I would send her. This could go on for months. It's not fair on her Dad otherwise

RandomMess · 21/12/2020 11:59

Yes it could go on for months but at the moment it's new so I would want to hold off with the hope that it would be safer to go in Feb half term.

Sorry but I don't want this new strain spreading any faster than it will be by key workers etc! Our local hospitals aren't coping already.

I agree about increasing FaceTime, arranging some Zoom calls with his extended family etc?

Sargassoseas · 21/12/2020 12:18

I do feel I should stick up for myself a little here as there's a lot of repetition of my being potentially "deeply unfair". I'm keen for my daughter to have a continuing relationship with her dad and have always encouraged and facilitated it. He generally sees her about every ten weeks (his choice). I would prefer him to see her at least once a month.

The exemption won't be removed. She won't be stuck. It may be boring as we will be in the highest tier from Boxing Day but she will certainly be able to get back.

Nicola is not a zealot and is just doing her best to protect Scotland (which still has lower numbers) as much as possible - which is, er, her JOB. I'm no crazy Nats fan but I'm sick of people criticising her when she's doing the best she can.

Is her return to school delayed at all?

Everything in me says no, give it a few weeks and see the state of play. Does she fly up? Could she go for a weekend between now and Feb half term when there is a clearer picture of what is going on?

Without it being outing, which local authority would she be going to? (Sorry if I've missed that info)

It's doesn't really make any difference unless she is going to an island. Everywhere else is level 4 from Boxing Day.

I'm aware of the rules. The rules are that her child can go anywhere in Scotland. However depending on which local authority it is may change how "morally" right I think it is....Considering the new strain is in one, if not two local authorities already.

"POLICE officers will stop and may take action against drivers of cars from England, Scotland's chief constable has warned as part of his plan to enforce a strict travel ban across the country.

Iain Livingstone told the Scottish Government's briefing on the pandemic today that police would be engaging with people on the move.

Asked for examples of what would prompt officers to stop and speak to someone driving along a road, the chief constable cited a recent case of a van bearing an address from England being stopped.

The driver was issued with a fine and told to return home."

Yes there is a travel ban has been since the 20th of November (which a lot of people don't seem to get) but shared parental access is on the exemption list to this. Along with caring responsibilities, education etc
