Can I have a visitor tomorrow?

Instead of Christmas day?

I will not be having any visitors at all on Christmas Day. Tomorrow is my dc birthday and my mum has asked if she can drop off some presents at my door. Me and dp both reckon she should pop in to see the dc and have a tea.

We haven't mixed with anyone other than our work/ school bubbles. We don't see the problem of her doing this tomorrow instead of Christmas Day.

Would you?

Well I've just heard on breakfast news that those working on Christmas day can choose a different day to meet others instead.

Tier 2 is fine to sit in the garden

MsTSwift · 21/12/2020 08:48

Tier 2 can meet outdoors in groups of up to 6. It’s all online on the government website. Why don’t you look there? Adults have a responsibility to be aware of what the current rules are - and follow them. Our views on them are irrelevant.

JacobReesMogadishu · 21/12/2020 08:57

Everyone always has an excuse why they can break the rules..... "we've followed the rules till now, everyone else is doing worse, can't see the harm"

Really- I havent seen anything else like this. It makes sense I think. Why should people already unlucky enough to be rostered on the 25th miss out on seeing people on Boxing day for example
SleepingStandingUp · 21/12/2020 09:14

I do get your logic op.

On 25th you can have 1 bubble in your house and it's fine. So why not on the 22nd? What is the actual difference beyond adherence to rules?

I'm sure I'll be accused of slaughtering innocents and deliberately giving Grannies of the work Corona virus but we did. We'll be alone as a household over Xmas as we have every day so we let my Mom and niece in to watch the babies open a few presents and have their cake last week.

Smile3 · 21/12/2020 09:16

Just do it!

iamusuallybeingunreasonable · 21/12/2020 09:30

@InTheLongGrass

Legally? No you cant. Get the blankets out, sit in the garden, 2m apart. Be thankful you even get to see them in a socially distanced manner, reduce the spread, and get Covid under control so I get a chance to see my parents.
This, not seem our elderly parents since last Christmas, as we are all dotted around the country, consider yourself lucky you could sit outside and have a chat, I'd kill for that right now
merrymouse · 21/12/2020 09:35

Given that you still have quite good options to meet outside in tier 2, I would take advantage of those while you can.

SophieGiroux · 21/12/2020 09:36

The only way this would increase risks is if your mum then went and saw someone else on Christmas Day. If she won't be seeing anyone else at all then there is no difference changing the day. I think the gov are saying a blanket "only on the 25th" because they know people will stretch the rules and see people on more than one day. So even if you personally don't do that, your visitors might.
