What's going to happen with boarding schools?

If the school is in a tier 2 area and lots of pupils are from tier 4?

Think will operate as normal as travel allowed for educational purposes.

MrsMiaWallis · 20/12/2020 23:59

Seems a bit tricky if they are going home at weekends so coming and going from tier 4

Most boarding schools have their own testing system so will hopefully be able to continue to take children from tier 4 as long as they quarantine and test. Visits home may be impossible though and that will be really hard for some children. Already our boarding school has been providing online learning for a few pupils who have chosen to remain at home this term to protect older parents. So maybe they will be able to continue to operate with both physical and online teaching. Exhausting for the teachers.

A complete return to online learning is possible I suppose, but I really hope not.

We have been asked to isolate as much as possible before they go back and then when they get back Noone is allowed to leave the grounds for 2 weeks same as previous lockdown. Weekend passes only in exceptional circumstances.

Last term they had one positive case and that was from a child who was taken for a weekend for compassionate reasons and brought it back.... They managed it quite well I thought.

MrsMiaWallis · 21/12/2020 00:03

Yes they have a testing system. My dd is a day girl (we live close to the school in a tier 2 area)
Not sure how that's going to work 😕

I guess loads of day school pupils will cross tiers every day as well, at edges of counties/around London.

Enidblyton1 · 21/12/2020 00:14

Was your DD separated from the boarders last term OP? That’s tough if day pupils are the minority.

MillicentMargaretAmanda · 21/12/2020 00:14

Exactly Coroico97. I live in what is now a tier 4 area. At least 100 kids from here go to school every day in what is currently a tier 2 area. Same up and down the county. If we are still 4 vs 2 come January it will be interesting to see what happens. Surely they don't want our evil tier 4 germs imported daily?

MrsMiaWallis · 21/12/2020 00:20

My dd boarded last term but was supposed to be a day girl again this term. God knows how they are going to work it all out.

Technically no idea, as they have not declared anything yet. However, last term, they locked down all bubbles as much was as possible and parents did transport wherever possible to limit use of public transport over exeat. I'm hoping mine goes back in Jan, but the online learning from March was excellent so we were v lucky.

Hopefully they will all be closed down and a law passed banning any kind of private school.

Ha ha. There's always one. Hopefully that won't happen in the next four years. Once dd has left then do your worst!

Hahahahaha! Brilliant

I'm so pleased my kids are private to avoid the likes of you

Great idea, hun. Especially at the moment; the government’s got sooo much spare cash to throw at funding an extra 630,000 school places. 👍

MrsMiaWallis · 21/12/2020 10:26

I wonder if they will go back online again in January
