Can a negative test on christmas eve mean my elderly MIL and stepson can visit on boxing day?
We have a rapid test centre for non symptomatic people to test and get results within an hour in our area.
The original plan was for MIL and DSS to come over on Boxing Day, MIL stays for 2 days and DSS to stay until NY eve.
Now I'm panicking but DH says if we test negative on xmas eve we can still have them over. I'm thinking despite testing negative, we could still be positive up to 5 days after any exposure. DH is working up to and including xmas eve.

Any health professionals out there that can answer this? NHS and PHE not very clear.

Thanks

No, the household mixing rule is only allowed on Christmas Day?

Sorry I think your DSS should be able to if you share custody though, can you MiL not come on Christmas Day instead?

Nobody should be seeing anyone on boxing day. A negative test on one day doesn't mean you won't test positive 2 days later. Those lateral flow tests aren't that accurate either so I wouldn't rely on a negative test being accurate either

Negative test only means you haven't got it at the time of the test. You could still be incubating it and be infectious prior to symptoms appearing (if not asymptomatic)

Christmas visiting now limited to Christmas Day, not Boxing Day. Negative test doesn't make any difference.

My local council has been posting this pic which shows how a negative test doesn’t necesssrily mean you aren’t infectious. It’s why the isolation period after contact with an infectious person is 10 days, because you could be asymptomatic but infectious.

We share custody and DSS was due on boxing day with us being support bubble for MIL.
Just wanted to know about the lateral flow testing, incubation and accuracy. We'll have to make a decision as to how and when we see them now.

Lateral flow missed about 50% of cases in the pilot testing they did so its not that accurate
