Collecting new puppy

What would people do in this situation?

We were due to collect a new puppy on the 28th December

We live in tier 4 area and the breeder is in tier 2.

I don't think it's a case of collect at a later date as where I live (Kent) will most likely be in tier 4 for a long time.

What would people do?

I would collect but have no contact.
Ask them to put pup in a cage/box on the front lawn when you arrive, they step back and then you go and pick pup up.’
Have them leave any food etc in a bag next to pup.

Honestly? I'd write off the deposit and not take the dog.

Picking up a puppy 3 days after Christmas, in a pandemic, while in a highly locked down area of the country means your chances of properly raising and socilaising it are slim. The wrong start at this stage of its life risks lifelong behavioural challenges.

You asked what I'd do. That's it. Sorry.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 20/12/2020 19:53

I'd do the same as @FippertyGibbett. There's no way I'd delay collecting my puppy!

iswhois · 20/12/2020 19:56

@StockTakeAndWatermelons I have two of the same breed already and working from home at least until Easter (most likely longer) so socialising/training is not a problem.

Fair play. It wasn't a judgement on you. Just an answer to your question Smile

StockTakeAndWatermelons · 20/12/2020 19:58

In that case, I'd do as the pp would. A distanced pickup.

iswhois · 20/12/2020 20:06

Thank you Smile I've just messaged the breeder to get her thoughts and see if this would be possible. Really don't want to have to delay getting him if possible!!

You aren't supposed to leave a tier 4 area and others outside of tier 4 are not to enter a tier 4 area, save for legal exemptions.

RosePetalss · 20/12/2020 20:17

I would collect puppy.

Maybe offer the breeder petrol money to drive to the boarder of tier 4 so you can take puppy?

manicinsomniac · 20/12/2020 20:20

I'd collect him.

It's a pretty essential trip. You're bringing him home, he's going to be a member of your family.

Allgirlskidsanddogs · 20/12/2020 20:30

Socially distanced pickup. If they are council licensed then they can deliver.

What do you suggest happens to the puppy then? I would class this as an essential journey.

Providing care for animals is one of the legal exemptions for leaving your immediate area and tier. Taking (pre arranged) ownership would fall under that.
