My husband has just tested positive

Mot entirely sure why I'm posting but just need to vent.

My husband has tested positive this evening. No obvious symptoms. He's a paramedic and takes a home test twice a week for work, his one Wednesday was negative. He's had a headache since Wednesday when his run of shifts started but put it down to not being able to wear his glasses due to them fogging up from the masks. They've had all the correct PPE but the local hospital is so busy they end up queueing for hours with covid positive patients in the back.

I've got a test booked for tomorrow at 9am. We have a 6 year old and an almost one year old ( it's his birthday on the 27th Sad )

To add : he works in a tier 4 area so knew it was only a matter of time. I'm surprised he hasn't had it sooner but it's such rubbish timing!

Aw I’m sorry to hear that. I hope the rest of you haven’t picked it up. Flowers

ShowOfHands · 20/12/2020 18:43

What will it affect most? Have you got food? People who can help out?

It is miserable timing. My paramedic BIL is in exactly the same position right now.

@Missmonkeypenny
Why are you taking a test when you don't mention you have symptoms. Only those with symptoms are eligible for testing.

StealthPolarBear · 20/12/2020 18:45

Yes, what difference will your test result make?
Hope you're all ok

waiting4arainbow · 20/12/2020 18:46

Doesn't your husband need to book in for test at a centre now?
I have to do the flow test twice weekly but was told if it comes back positive to book in at a test centre to check. Fingers crossed it might be false x

Missmonkeypenny · 20/12/2020 18:54

DH has a test booked tomorrow morning also. I am having a test because I am also an essential worker and worked yesterday with someone who is extremely clinically vulnerable - my employer has requested it and referred.

Fair enough. Fingers crossed for a negative

oep17 · 20/12/2020 19:45

I’m a nurse and also tested positive after taking a lateral flow tests last night after no symptoms other than a cold for the last week. First time
I’d taken a lateral flow test as only got the kit Thursday. My DS has diarrhoea as of this morning so likely he also has it. Awaiting confirmation result as had lab based swab this morning. Really disappointed I’ve caught it and worrying as without the lateral flow test I never would have known as I don’t have the main symptoms the NHS requires you to have. I’ve seen people in the last week who will now be at risk.

That’s not true

In high risk areas asymptomatic tests are being offered

dementedpixie · 20/12/2020 19:53

Although even if you come back negative tomorrow it doesn't mean you don't have it.

Bumsnet2021 · 20/12/2020 19:54

Not seeing the issue to be honest?

Whats the issue with timing? Sounds good to me that he will now presumably be off over Christmas when you couldn't visit people anyway?

starrynight19 · 20/12/2020 19:56

Really sorry to hear he has caught this from work. Hopefully he isn’t too ill with it or passed it on to you.
It’s so hard when your working in a risky job as it also doubles the risk for your family. I caught covid at work but thankfully most of my family had already had it just before.
It’s also horrendous that they are in ambulances for hours with positive patients.

Actually, when my DP tested positive I was also offered a test as families of key workers could get tested right from the start. To my surprise I had it too!

Also, where I live and in many other places, mass testing is being rolled out, which is specifically aimed at picking up asymptotic cases. So OP may be in one of those areas.

Just be aware that if you are negative that could change quickly. My son has SEN and so when he had symptoms I got a test too to reassure him. He was positive I was negative. 4 days later I got symptoms and tested positive the next day.
