Some positivity needed feeling scared

Does anyone have any reassuring facts about the recent strain of covid or the current situation? I’m feeling so anxious after seeing that there’s been a 95 percent increase in cases compared to last Sunday. It feels like March all over again but this time we know it’s not going to all pass quickly. Could really do with some positivity.

Facts remain that you are still no more likely to become seriously ill or die than you were at any other point this year. There’s evidence that the new mutation may be more easily transmissible, but it isn’t associated with different or more significant symptoms. Facts also remain that if you are under 45, a healthy weight, and have no serious health condition, you remain no more likely to die or suffer serious Covid-related symptoms than you do of any other illness.

The more you read and the more speculation you surround yourself with, the more you worry. Stop watching rolling news and stop reading sensationalist articles.

@ComtesseDeSpair thank you. I definitely need to step away from the news and social media and focus on one day at a time. It all feels very overwhelming at the moment. You’re absolutely right though, thank goodness this strain isn’t any worse. I just worry about the number of people who will become seriously ill and not be able to get the treatment they need to survive. I need to try and focus on living in the moment.

Someone we know that is 65, has Covid for at least 7 days and no symptoms as yet.

A much older man on my road had it in March, he was ill for a couple of weeks but then ok and back to normal.

HTH.

@MG2020 thank you that’s good to hear. @Mumisnotmyonlyname I’m so pleased you’re ok that’s really reassuring. It’s so easy to feel overwhelmed at the moment. The new strain has really thrown me.

As a general rule as viruses become more contagious they become slightly less lethal. (The more lethal they are the quicker they kill and therefore don’t transmit as far). Don’t know for sure with this one but that is often the case.

Bettydot · 21/12/2020 07:57

@ParlezVousWronglais I keep hoping this will be the case with this version. I don’t think they have enough data yet but let’s hope this is the case.
