What should be the main restriction in place?

I see a lot of debate on pubs and restaurants closing and questioning whether that should be the main restriction in place
So my question is
What do you think should be the main restriction in place if you had to pick one?

No mixing of households (unless for support bubble purposes).

PicsInRed · 20/12/2020 16:59

Border closure.

This new strain didn't originate here and there's no point locking down any further if we don't close the border so we can work on reducing internal transmission, without constant inbound.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 20/12/2020 17:00

I do think pubs should be shut unfortunately. Some do enforce social distancing but more don't bother. I went out back in August for my birthday and the city centre was carnage.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 20/12/2020 17:00

And holidays abroad shouldn't be happening.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 20/12/2020 17:02

No mixing of households so only going to work where it really can’t be done from home, no schools, no social places indoors.

BonjourMiss · 20/12/2020 17:04

Border closures didn’t seem to work as we have Scottish tourists in Cornwall Xmas Sad they drove overnight after the announcement was made.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 20/12/2020 17:04

No travel abroad, in or out, if we can have a second option along with not going between tiers.

BonjourMiss · 20/12/2020 17:06

Sorry I mean internal UK borders obviously Smile

Never go to work if you feel the slightest bit unwell - and pay people, in full, including the self-employed and any business losses.

This is the number 1 low hanging fruit - there still lots of people going to work sick because they can't afford not to

hettyhooverdoover · 20/12/2020 19:50

Restriction for travel. Stay in your areas.

SandysMam · 20/12/2020 19:52

Change the list of main symptoms to include headache, sore throat and sneezing. Yes you might get lots of people taking tests who don’t need them but you would also nip a lot more of the spread in the bud.

timeforanewstart · 20/12/2020 19:56

No international travel until we get a better hold
Unfair the population being in and out of lockdown whilst people can fly in and out
But there is no one main thing
Its needs a combination
Re : mixing indoors maybe they could of let everyone form a bubble with one other household indoors just so you can have somewhere else to go
Most pubs /restaurants around me are very sensible
Supermarkets are worse in my opinion they have scrapped ques and one way etc and are a free for all

Kazzyhoward · 20/12/2020 20:04

Do what we should have done in March and close the sodding borders. Put in controls for import/export of goods (like NZ and IOM etc), but be VERY strict re people in and out, with strict quarantine in secure hotels for "essential" travellers for business, funerals, etc.

In fact, it would be a good time to do that now. Many countries have already banned UK flights, and with the tier 4 etc, it's something we could do. Yes, the horse has bolted, but it really is pointless having severe restrictions here, and yet having virtually open borders inviting even more people in who may be carrying the virus. Lots of airport hotels available where inbound travellers could be taken to isolate under supervision as they return from holidays etc.

I thought the mutation was considered to have happened here
TrainspottingWelsh · 20/12/2020 20:28

People that don't social distance in shops, and instead get unnecessarily close to everyone for no explicable reason should be put in stocks in the car park and have 'wanker' semi permanently tattooed on their foreheads.

hopeishere · 20/12/2020 20:42

I'm not sure but I think there needs to be more detail on where people are catching it. Is it supermarkets? Packaging? Private homes? Schools?

DianaT1969 · 20/12/2020 20:59

Close secondary schools and colleges, because that age group don't do social distancing, they can transmit the virus, and they are independent enough to study online with the right tools. No easy task for teachers of course!

DianaT1969 · 20/12/2020 21:04

I'd also like to know the data on whether transmission is high on London underground tubes and buses.
