Question about tier 4 rationale

We are now in a Tier 4 area. However our cases are reasonably low, below the national average and lower than some tier 3 and even tier 2 areas. Admittedly other areas in our county have higher rates but not massive.

Is the tier 4 rationale entirely to do with the new strain? It feels a little unfair considering our rates but I guess it's more to do with containing the new strain which I understand. Or perhaps hospital capacity too, not sure what that's like.

Still hard not to be a little frustrated and disappointed but helps if there's clear logic behind it.

The new strain will have made quite a difference - rapid rise

Tier is decided on number of cases overall, number of cases in the over 60s whether the rates are rising or falling and his rapidly, and how full your local hospitals are.

I think it's because they want to contain the new strain. Pre lockdown 2.0 we were one of the lowest rates in the country. By the end of the first week of december our rates had skyrocketed and we went up to 65th on the list & they've continued upwards

Which proves 2 things, lockdown is a waste because all these people had to catch it in lockdown and that the strain is more contagious.
