Having witnessed the start of our rollout of COVID vaccinations this weekend I feel like shouting this from the rooftops. The work and organisation that has been put into what is a logistical nightmare is unbelievable . All in a short period of time.
The majority of this work has been done at grassroots levels by staff who have gone above and beyond.
But it has been made worthwhile by the reaction of the people who received their vaccines. I honestly think we have so much to learn from our over 80s. They have been isolated and often frightened for almost a year. The tears of joy and gratitude we have witnessed from them on being offered the vaccine has been overwhelming at times. Even those told they have to wait another few weeks have been stoic and undemanding. There's been little mention of Facebook conspiracy theories just gratitude and relief
Sorry for going on but it's been a long time since I and my colleagues have felt such job satisfaction

He's quite stoic so got over it quickly

But there was a 99 year old lady in the queue and her and her daughter were in tears Sad

your poor dad @WorraLiberty
it is a difficult vaccine though isnt it, need to do a load at a time,
the logistics are difficult, and that was teething troubles, hopefully it will go better next time Thanks

WorraLiberty · 20/12/2020 12:23

Yes that's true Skipsurvey, plus storage has been a problem for many places as they've had to get special fridges delivered and there's been a few teething issues with that.

@WorraLiberty

That's lovely to hear OP Thanks

Unfortunately it's a complete shit show in my borough, with very elderly people being made to queue in freezing cold car parks with no seating or shelter, while the appointments run up to an hour behind.

My 88 year old dad queued for 40 minutes in the freezing cold, except he couldn't even wait in the warm car because the parking facilities were 10 minutes walk away.

Then with no explanation, a security guard came out to tell them vaccines were cancelled and for them all to go home.

He ended up taking to his bed because his legs were so sore and he was frozen to the bone....while I contacted the borough's head of health care to complain.

Thankfully he's booked in for early January, at a place with a car park, gazebo and seating so fingers crossed.

So sorry to hear that. Hope he gets sorted soon. 💐

Think there needs to be more thought put into the queuing in some areas, chairs and covered areas for example and warn people to bring blankets for elderly relatives and maybe a hot drink too, that sort of thing if waits could be a hour or more

I agree although I think if it's well organised queueing should be minimal
